is the warning system on this forum run by a bunch of morons or something?, I have posted 123 messages on this forum and though I admit I am not a huge one for punctuation, spelling, grammer etc I TRY and post in a way that can be read by people and so far have not had any complaints.

until today it seems, out of my 123 posts this one consisting of 4 words

if I had posted an entire post of leet/text speak and had spelt all 4 words wrongly and epicly wrongly at that I could understand having a member or a mod point out my failure, but when I've already posted 122 other posts of similar grammer and spelling what is the bloody point?, if you mods spend all day looking for useless posts like this to nitpick its no wonder the online community considers dakka to be the butthole of the internet.

Well at least the MODS have been given authority to make such judgement calls.

What I hate even more are "Grammmar Champions" without MOD status who randomly admonish people for similar "mistakes". What is even more amusing is when their own posts doing so contain errors...

Was it an auto-warning? I believe it auto-triggers on certain posts if they contain lack of punctuation, etc. If so, I don't believe that's an actual mod---but a script--and hell I get those from time to time on mild posts. Unless you actually received a pm from a moderator...in which case disregard what I said.

If you have an issue with a warning you recieved, take it up with them via PM or PM one of the site admins about it, making threads like this does nothing for your case, nor does insulting a whole community ("...butthole of the internet...") or the only people that can help you ("...run by a bunch of morons...").

If you read the other posts, you'll see that the 'warning' you got was an automated system that warns you if you are going to post without punctuation or capitalization.

Hence, no mods are watching your every move.

I know about the little pop up warning if thats what you refering to, that pops up if you forget 1 full stop or spell a word correctly in UK english, the PM warning however was not via a bot or any system

To be fair Genghis Connie posted grammatically correct posts at the age of 4. But she's pure genius so I was giving you the benefit of the doubt.

To the point, this board has a significant non English speaking cohort. As such, text speak and poor grammar are frowned upon. Plus if you're challenged to compete with elementary school kids you might rethink wasting time on the internet and consider getting your sorry ass back in school. In the words of the immortal bard: "Fat, drunk, and stupid are no way to go through life son."

the grammer rules are enforced to an over the top standard, my posts are english, they are understandable to anyone with an IQ over 3, and have enough grammer and punctuation when needed to get the point across, not starting with a capital or not finishing with a full stop does not make an entire 4 word post impposible to understand or read, to assume or insist that it does makes you sound like a fool

You've actually made the same mistakes in this PM to me. For example, you did not capitalize anything. You also left out quite a few apostrophes, didn't use commas properly, and made your run-on sentence very difficult to read. Thank you, Dracos, for quoting the relevant rules.

While it may be frustrating for some, proper spelling, capitalization, punctuation and grammar are important and valued elements of English communication here on Dakka. Especially since we have a substantial number of members for whom English is not their primary language, and writing properly helps them a great deal. It's also just a good habit for us all to maintain. Mistakes happen of course, and few or none of us have perfect spelling or grammar, but making the effort is worth the (minimal) time investment, and appreciated by other members.

Enforcement of the rules can never be 100% consistent, but some self-centered users do gain the mistaken idea that they are the only ones warned for breaking a given rule, just because they are unaware of the warning PMs other people receive. Out of sight = out of mind; much of the time, it seems.

If ever in doubt about the rules, of course, it's well worth reviewing them. There's a link in the bottom right corner of every page on the Dakka Dakka forums, for your convenience.
