I am proud to present my latest effort, Lord Kaldor Draigo!

It was a long term project I slowly worked on over the course of a month.

There are plenty of in progress shots and thoughts on preparation if you scroll through my blog.

Thanks for checking him out Dakka!

It was quite a project and I got to try out some things that were new to me which is always fun.

Well, that is clearly amazing. Very well done. I really like the base and the demonic tentacle and eye. Really stunning work. Cheers.

Very nice job sir! My only criticism would be that chaos beastie at the bottom being the same color as the sword is a bit off-putting. It creates an odd competition in the composition, something much subtler for the beastie color scheme would serve it a bit better overall.

That is a very small crit though in contrast to the rest which is essentially made of 100% congealed awesome sauce and brawn.

I agree with Majortom11, if the tentacle contrasted the sword a bit more it would be superb.

Excellent Job, I actually like the combination of colours, there is a symmetry to the model I find pleasing. The purple of the creature and the sword keeps the unity found throughout the model (not to mention the sword itself is supposedly forged from a Bloodthirster's axe making it somewhat demonic like the tentacled gribbly); the grey of the stone and the armour itself, the ornaments of his armour and the eye of the creature, the red on the banner and that of the cloak. I think another colour for the creature would break up what at the moment is balanced and could lead to drawing the eye away from Draigo himself. I think that this unity you have captured also embodies his banishment to the warp, slowly amalgamating with the realm of chaos.

WOW, i must say you have a point there, but it seems like youve put WAY too much thought into this.

It wasn't too much thought. I used to study art and would analyse works in a similar fashion; I simply look at miniature painting as another medium. There is more there than just the physical representation. A lot of expression can go into the painting/construction.

I guess im the only one here >.>

but i think the whole miniature doesnt look metalic , it looks like its made out of smooth stone.

The only part i think looks like real metal is the shield's side.

But of course , its way better than i'll ever be able to paint T-T

So did I, but I still have to disagree with you. He purples are the two most intense and saturated colors, they are separated and at the outside of the composition geographically. The separation creates competition to fill in the middle, yet in contrast draigo himself is nearly black and white and can't command the attention long in light of the competition. It feels like someone vignettes a black and white photo with purple, which, as you likely know, is the opposite of usual aesthetic norms.

Again though, the piece is so nicely done that it isn't too difficult to drag your eye away from the purple, and as I said, if the chaos beastie was done with a more subtle pallette, most certainly not a high saturation color, it would let the eye immediately go to the sword, draigo, then examining the detail of the base.

I understand what you are saying. The red however is equally, if not slightly more intense than the purples. It holds our focus well but not so much that we don't notice the purple of the base. There is also movement in the piece. The spiraling tentacle coils upwards, the eye looks up to draigo, draigo holds his sword high, the entire form is like arrow sweeping attention upwards from the wide base to the tip of the banner. Yes his armour is a neutral tone but there is symmetry in the red and purples providing balance; our view is not weighted down. I agree he does not command complete attention but I don't believe he is completely drowned out. Yes, the base here takes a bigger role than what we normally see on minis, it is no longer a scenic stand for something of greater focus.
