So I've started painting these Forgeworld World Eater Terminators. I've got five on the go at the moment with another five in the pipeline. I've seen loads of pics of marines with power weapons with that 'eerie glow' reflecting on the armour type effect so I thought I'd have a go at doing this myself (hopefully I've managed to correctly attach the right photo!). I've tried to keep the model dark which is in keeping with the rest of my army. But I don't know if the effect is really working. Comments please!

It's not bad. The only problem is that you've used the same yellowish red colour range as the rest of the model, meaning the blade fingers don't stand out much visually - personally I'd have gone with blue power weapons for some colour contrast.

i agree, a light blue would definitely contrast more with the red armour. but i do like the hellish inferno look of the blades at the moment

Thanks for the comments. I've taken this on board and attach my latest incarnation with blue/white 'eerie glow' lightning claws. He's not quite finished yet with the base and a few details to do. I think this stands out a bit better, although I may do a mix of both on different models so I don't have to repaint the first one and he doesn't look odd compared to the rest!

I love the blue glow effect. I'm no painting critic, but I think it's excellent

That's a really nice idea actually.

Loks very nice. I like both styles.

The blue one gives better contrast, but the red claws make the model look much more evil and angry, which is exactly the right thing for a chaos terminator i guess...

I like the blue glow. Maybe gently drybrush the finger tips white?

Thanks for your comments guys, I'll post some more pics when I've done some more. I may try one or two other colours but I'm quite liking the blue

The blue you've done looks good, as it contrasts with the rest of the model. I was going to suggest a green, but see what you think.

The blue claws are beautiful, and really emphasise that the source of the glow are the claws themselves. However, I think you might benefit from reducing the level of glow they're putting out, so it doesn't overpower the colours of the rest of the model: at the moment, when I look at it my first thought is "Blue model? Surely that won't match an army of Red Marines?".

The orange claws are also lovely, and match the rest of the model very well, but it's not imediately apparent that the glow effect across the model is caused by the claws. When I first looked at it, I assumed the orange glow was either highlighting or lighting from the base from something like lava (despite there being no source for said lighting on the base, that was still my first assumption). So while the orange is good, the blue is probably the more appropriate, so long as it doesn't end up dominating the model.

"I reached down through my trousers, and groped for something concealed in my sock... it was my foot."

I lurk, therefore I am. DOOM DOLPHINS!

So here are my next couple of photos. The first one is the finished terminator I've done with the blue claws, I added a bit more white to the claws and finished the base. The other photo is my third attempt, these I've done bright yellow rather than the orange of the first. I think the claws themselves look good but not so sure about the highlighting on the armour. Anyway I'll post more pics when I've done the last two.

Four down and one to go! Here's my latest lightning claw terminator - I've gone for blue again with this.

I really like your terminators, the lightning claws and glow effect is really good.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having different coloured claws in the same unit, they are chaos terminators after all.

I would stick with the blue as the other colours don't really show up for the glow your creating for the OSL effect.

Thanks I'm flattered! But to be honest, I don't even have enough time to paint all my own stuff. There's the small problem of work keeps getting in the way! Besides I'm quite slow at painting.

Looks smexeh! Some pictures from the side would be appreciated though, for the simple reason that you can see more of the claws from that point of view.

Looks very good. If you'r going for a uniform look you might consider having the claws in the same color though.

quite the nice looking termies you got yourself there
but where on earth did you get all those claws?

Trawling e-bay and various 'bits' websites and buying them at an extortionate price

Got another five sets too!
