so i wanted to do this project for a while . i love battletech . it was my first game that got me in to everything . but the record keepings crazy . the most fun i had was just useing a couple of mechs . to me keeping the engagements small kept it fun . also what about doing it in 28mm with scifi infantry , tanks and mechs ! great idea but you have to find everything . a while ago i picked up a toy madcat and repainted . great toy . i've picked up some of the pig iron scifi infanty . many companies make scifi vehicles and i saw on ebay the robotech toys so i picked up an excailaber ... i mean a warhammer and started painting . iron wind metals even makes 28mm clan elemental infantry . a slow project but hears some pics . its always cool to try something new .

Wow, that is an awesome project! Gaming wise 28mm BT would be a bit of a nightmare I can imagine if you like having +5 mechs on each side but its pretty cool to see large scale ones nevertheless

Nice work, and a great idea.

Not 28mm, but I've wanted to take the MWDA figs and repurpose them to Battletech myself, but going 28mm has it's merits too (namely loads of Unseen BT mechs available via macross kits and/or dougram kits).

I always thought it would be great to have a 15MM Battletech game, focused more on troops and non-mech vehicles, but with options for plenty of mechs. It would have to be streamlined, with lots of the record-keeping for the mechs gotten rid of, but I'm sure that a sensible, streamlined system could be created. And it would be awesome!

You're bringing back memories, there.

I used to do this in the late 80s with some mates.

We played in 20mm, though. We had 1/72 scale models of the following (Battletech names. Didn't care enough about the Macross names for theirs and couldn't read Kanji to save myself to translate the Dougram and Crusher Joe kits) mechs:

Rifleman
Warhammer
Longbow
Archer
Battlemaster
Shadowhawk
Stinger
Phoenix Hawk
Goliath
Scorpion
Griffon
Locust

We'd play lance on lance with maybe a few squads of infantry or tanks. This was also prior to the Battletech miniatures rules in the compendium.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Absolutely love it! I have a fan-made 28mm Kit Fox Omnimech kit kicking around in my garage that I have yet to build. Your project is making me want to do something with that model.

Sweet! I've seen people playing larger scale battletech games like this a few years ago when I used to go to Gencon and it always looked fun. The closest I got was playing in the megascale Battlestar Galactica games recently and the Star Wars ones back in the 90's.

Sorry for a bit of thread necromancy, but could you confirm if the Warhammer toy above is the same as the 7" Robotech/ExoSquad series of figures released in the 90's or one of the same figures from the earlier UK or Japanese releases?

I've got a Warhammer, Rifleman and something similar to a Longbow from that series back at my folks house that I got as part of the ExoSquad line. If they are the same as the one you have pictured, I may have to do a bit of 28mm battletech as well!

Way to go love the Warhammer. Battletech was the game in my younger day but never played on the large scale. Come to think of it I think the Kurita and Stiener Battletroop are down stairs. Oh no inspired for a new project.
