Hi guys!

Well, since the time I hesitated to do it, well here they are, my first pictures on dakka ^^

I'm going for a desert camo theme IG, and I've finished my first squad, here they are!

(some of them are different, since I tried different camo painting methods, and was lazy to paint them again :p)

phone camera, so sorry for the bad picture quality

I had trouble finding a way to paint dark skin, this one is waayyy too dark

[Thumb - cadian04.jpg]

[Thumb - cadian05.jpg]

[Thumb - cadian06.jpg]
This was one of the first methods I tried, I find it less convincing than the other ones

The other attempt at painting dark skin, a bit better but not that much. Also an attempt at painting red hair actually. Not the best combination ever...

The sergeant; for some reason, his picture look a lot worse than the other guys

Thanks!

Does it actually look like desrt camo?

I mean, it does for me, but I'm not the best judge of my own work, I always prefer to have other people opinion

It looks like a quite realistic desert camo to me.

Therein lies the problem - the miniatures lack definition. When painting a wargames army, realistic camo quite often has to take second fiddle to being visible on the table.

I'd be tempted to do the boots in desert tan, and the armour and helmets in olive drab, something to contrast a bit with the fatigues. Drybrush a little desert dust (bleached bone / khaki) onto them to unify a bit with the rest.

Well, that was actually the dilemma I had for some time... The more realistic the camo is, the less the minis will be visible on the table (obviously). I still want to keep it as camo as possible, but I might try to Dheneb Stone the armor parts, and see how it looks

Hey its not too bad for a phone's camera. Im with Winterdyne in relation to the desert dust, do a real light kahki drybrush onto the boots/pants

I like these as well, looks like some of the unis that the Brits and Aussies ive had the good fortune of serving with in Iraq. (obviously simplified for visibility on the table top)

Ok, thanks for the advice I actually painted the shoulderpads in Dheneb Stone, it loses a bit the camo part, but it seems a bit less messy, I will try to add one or two pictures later

I will try the drybrush on boots, but for some reasons it seems the be the technique I have the most trouble with (either too much paint, or not enough, I can't find the good way to do it)
