Hi all,

I have recently fell in love with thousand sons and with the rumours of chaos legions now sprouting up I've decided that i'm gonna do a thousand sons army as soon as I've finished painting my 'nids. Now, it is here that I run into a problem as thousand sons are, at the moment, .

So, I'm going to do a bit of converting and create thousand sons berzerkers, thousand sons plague marines, etc.

Now, for the berzerkers I'm going to buy some gk, file off all the loyalist scum insignia, and use the halberd and body to create some thousand sons using egyptian style halberds.

For the plague marines, I'm going to have some relatively normal thousand sons but they're going to have egyptian style shields and stuff.

You see, I can make thousand sons work; all I have to do is stop them being thousand sons and thousand sons become good.

Now, I was going good until: noise marines... as egyptians didn't have stereos or boomboxes I can't so that and now i'm stuck.

Also, if you have any other ideas for other units being made all thousand sons like (such as obliterators, possessed, dreadnought, etc.) please feel free to write them down here.

Yes I know this doesn't make sense fluff-wise before all the fluff lawyers have a field day. I don't care about this deviation from fluff as it will hopefully look cool.

Hi there,

apart from the already mentioned fluff, it sounds like a nice idea to me.

For the Noise Marines - how about using some old egyptian music instruments ( golden fanfare / horn) and give them a slighly chaosy touch? I remember several cool musical instruments from older undead boxes - a horn formed like a snake, or a horn made from a spine and a skull.

Night Lords: 5500 points / 1750 points painted
Orks: 1250 points / 300 points painted
Orcs & Goblins: 6000 points / 2500 points painted
Tomb Kings: 3000 points / 1500 points painted

Defiler using the tomb kings Necrosphinx.

Oblierators by putting 2 Sons with Lasercanon, Melter and a Flamer Demon on the base?

I like the idea, i think it would look good but would take time and money.

I started on a similar project with World eaters but shortly changed to Iron Warriors to be more fluffy, but i think your idea is a really good one and would look nice on the field.

Go for it.

Thanks for the ideas, can't believe i didn't think of that for noise marines. Seems so obvious now.

Those ba masks work so well.

And yeah, fluff-wise I'm not bothered about the thousand sons are meant to be ranged, yadda, yadda.

I am still trying to keep to the whole no mutations thing though.

Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts

Hmmm no mutations is a tough one with the Obliberators ..

But since Rubric Marines are little more than animated suits of armor, you could try to build a bigger (animated) armour with several weapons attached to it. Keep it smaller than a dread to avoid any misunderstandings

Another Defiler Idea, not the easiest conversion however:

Thanks for so many quick replies!

Anyway, just remembered another idea I had:

Kharn! I'd give him one of those sickle things is the main thing I thought of.

If you have any ideas for other Special characters then feel free to add them as well.

Also, does anyone know where i would be able to get a sickle weapon and other egyptian stuff. I've been to scribor already obviously and found a whole load of stuff but no sickles and of course the more variety the better.

Thanks again.

Your title is a bit misleading. "Making Thousand Sons useful" implies that you're wanting to make the actual unit of Thousand Sons useful.

Now, for the berzerkers I'm going to buy some gk, file off all the loyalist scum insignia, and use the halberd and body to create some thousand sons using egyptian style halberds.

Trust me on this. The GK bodies have way too much insignia on them to file off or fill in. If you're not up to sculpting large surfaces that you'll have to file off, it's wasted money.
You can, however, get the Halberds as bits by themselves that would fit on any kind of armored body/hand.

For the plague marines, I'm going to have some relatively normal thousand sons but they're going to have egyptian style shields and stuff.

Why shields?

You see, I can make thousand sons work; all I have to do is stop them being thousand sons and thousand sons become good.
Now, I was going good until: noise marines... as egyptians didn't have stereos or boomboxes I can't so that and now i'm stuck.

Just make them look like Sorcerers utilizing some kind of mind influence.

There's no fluff issues I can think of, just that your concept right now is kind of...vague. Are you wanting to make this Heresy era? Before or after the Rubric of Ahriman? What?

The only problem I can see is that if you want to do this as after the Rubric of Ahriman...there's not going to be a huge assortment of Thousand Sons. Only the fairly powerful Sorcerers who were able to restrain their own powers weren't turned into magically animated constructs trapped forever in their armor.

Good point Kan about the fluff. I might try to do them pre-heresy then to make them more fluffy.

And shields because that was the only thing I could think of that represented increased toughness, it's not great I know but I've only been toying with this idea for a few days now so I'm still thinking.

You could make them raptora cult, and try and do something that makes it look like they're putting up kine shields, or that they're pavoni and are healing their wounds.

Hey Tantan!

Congrats on the start-up! I'm excited to see the results! You caught me with that line about using Khorne Berserkers to make them...

I'm also starting to think about that (how to use Berserkers- the helmets are near perfect from the old plastic kits), but I'm kinda set on my path to collect a heavily converted (and expensive) army that will probably never see the light of day.

I'm excited to see how you're going to do this. The shields idea needs a bit more concepting, but I think you're going for the shields=more toughness type thing/hard to kill, like Nurgle. I can dig that.

For the sound marines (my favorite traitor group, actually) I second the horns and ornate instruments, though, how they'll fight and play at the same time, I have no idea, espeically with something like a lyre or sitar-type guitar instrument. Again, more concepting is in order.

GSing over GKs can also work, but it's a lot of chopping/filling to do if you're down for it. I'd suggest standard SM kits over them, and possibly getting Scibor egyptian components to round it out.

Either way, this is gonna be good. Thanks for the link. I'll be checking back on the real P&M thread from time to time and see how your project is going!

Thanks for advice. I'll probably use standard marines in that case.

I reckon I'll have all my 'nids finished by the beginning of september then I'm starting my new A levels and have got a tourney (that's what the 'nids are for) and I've elected to go to games day this year so I'll probably start this officialy around the end of september.
