Painting Within the Lines

Hey, Dakka! This is my Chaos Space Marine Army, painted in the Hakanor's Reavers paintscheme. It's about 1850 points; it's missing a pair of Bikers and two Berzerkers (working on getting them). So here's the full army shot:
Chaos Dreadnought, Vindicator 3 and Chaos Sorcerer:
Vindicator 1, Raptors, CSM Squad, and Rhino:
Vindicator 2, Berzerkers, and Rhino:
Berzerker Aspiring Champion:
Plague Marine Rhino & Chaos Space Marines:
Vindicator 3:
Chaos Rhino (this poor Rhino was stepped on the last game he was in; I loaned him out and he got crushed. So he looks a bit off):

Great minis man; really good job. I think that's the first Hakanor's Reavers I've ever seen except for the GW miniature and you've done a really good job.
Loving the old-school Marines, particularly the Autocannon dude and the Khorne Bezerkers (whose static pose I really liked for some reason), as well as the Possessed Parts, and for the most part they fit in well.
The infantry in particular look absolutely fantastic and really characterful, although I'm not so impressed by the vehicles tbh; they may have been better covered in 'lava' although that would be tedious for you I'd imagine!
I'm not a fan of the arm on the Dreadnought tbh, although it certainly suits the theme. Is it from Balrog?
Again, great looking force (and backdrop!) buddy, really impressed and I love the infantry. Should be a pretty potent and in-your-face force on the tabletop too. Great job.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

I really like that conversion on the dread. It looks really unique. Overall this is a very well painted army. Keep up the good work!

@5POG: Thanks for commenting, man! Yeah, I don't have a lightbox yet, so I wondered "Where's the best place to take army pics?" and just settled on my backyard. The rest came as a burst of inspiration.
@AtomicEngineer: I actually considered taking these guys to a local park and taking pictures by the lakeside (going for a D-Day esque shot), but backed out when I realized that I'd have an entire park watching me and my nerdiness. If it helps, I had a combat squad of Marines on my desk at work last summer. Thanks for the compliment!
@Biotox: LMAO! I'd actually love to play a game on my fishpond, if the threat of dropping my minis into the water wasn't looming over my head! XD Thanks for commenting!
@Just Dave: Thanks for the compliments! I've seen one other person with Hakanor's Reavers before, so I figured it'd be somewhat unique. There's a guy who plays Night Lords who uses a similar "lightning" style on his guys, so I stole inspiration from him.
The old school Marines are the best! The ones I got here were coated in an inch of hot glue, which really sucked getting off. As for covering the vehicles in lightning, I figured "less is more", but that could just be me rationalizing laziness. I'm not fully pleased w/ the Dread arm either; it's more a stopgap measure until I can get my hands on some DP parts to use in the meantime. The sword will probably be the only thing that stays; and yup, it's from a Balrog.
@ 40K Ninja: Thanks for the compliments! I've got some more stuff coming down the pipe for this army (two bikers, two Berzerkers, and Daemon Prince Hakanor himself), which I'll post soon enough.
@rubirub: Cheers for the two thumbs, man! The idea of cracks in the armor is what appealed to me about the Reavers; their armor is said to be constantly reforming like lava, which I thought was really kinda neat.

I really like the army. The basing work is simple but clean. Nice work on painting the lava lines. Consider lava lining the turrent CSM shoulder pad on the Rhino to match the rest of the army. I actually really like the rhino with a little camo work.
The only thing I strong dislike.. the addl close combat weapon on the Dreadnaught. I really dislike it. I'd try to get the bitz for a 2nd scourge, and then lava / flame paint them with green stuffed flames on them. Make them over the top. Sad part is the sword looks really nice, its the arm that's killing me.
I really like those vehicles! Thank you for highlighting the black on them Maybe one more slightly lighter shade on the highlights? Of course it might be there, but natural lighting might make it hard to see. You make me want to by a Vindicator !

OK I see the color commonality to the units now, and then the black and red line, got it!
I actually think that's awesome for playing fair, they are so clearly marked, but thematically I find it detracting form the 'ARMY' cohesiveness.
A problem with Chaos armies...

I sold them fairly cheap, due to the fact that I got them really cheap. I should have made an army blog about them; this army *really* evolved.
So a little history:
A good friend of mine happens across a trash bag, dumped on his doorstep for no reason, filled with 40K models. Really old 40K models in really bad shape. Some of these made it into my Marine army, while he eventually sold most of the Chaos to me. I got the infantry, bikes, and Dreadnought for $20. Why so cheap? Because they were coated in hot glue. Like, half an inch of hot glue. It took me two months to *very* slowly chip the hot glue off of each model. It SUCKED. Plus, those that weren't coated in nasty hot glue were covered in enamels (FFFFUUUUUUUUU-) which was a real pain to strip.
I had a loyalist Vindicator, so I just painted that in Reaver colors. I traded for the second one, and got the last one as a Christmas gift. The Rhinos were also rescued; I got them at an auction held by my FLGS for about $20 (they were in REALLY bad shape; it took me a while to fix them up and remove the superglue).
The only thing I bought for the army NIB was a box of Possessed, who I figured would give me some neat upgrade parts and make some rockin' Champions. I used some Jump Packs I had laying around to make the Raptors. The grand total of everything I spent on this army was about &100 USD. I got $250 USD for it. Kind of undersold, but eh; I'm not looking to make a profit, and apparently, they're going to someone who really needs an army (wheras I have a few more...).
I'll miss them, as I spent the last 6 months working on them, as a labor of love. However, they'll continue to despoil and defile elsewhere in the name of Chaos, so it's okay with me!
Now, to finish my Tyranids.

Now I think it's an even bigger shame that they are gone. ^^
But at least you resurrected them and gave them to someone who will treat them with the needed respect, I guess.
