So I have picked up an Air Landing Company and a Para Royal Engineer Platoon dirt cheap, so this is obviously my next project. I have been looking at pictures and have noticed that alot of the Troops at Arnhem and On D-day had "Camo Cream" on or look as if they have.

Does anyone have idea's about doing this on 15mm Figures? I was thinking of using the Soot weathering powder from Tamiya on the faces after completing the model.

Furthermore, does anyone have any quick Denison smocks or quick British Para's painting Tutorials. I am a big fan of Army painter Spray Undercoat and base coat, so if anyone recommends a good colour as base I don't mind spending hours with my Vallejo paints putting in the detail. Otherwise its the arse ache of Priming black then painting in the basecoat, at least with a nice coat of the Army Painter base colour you feel like you are making good progress.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

The D Minus 1 book has a guide for painting British airborne, that's what I'm using.

Yeah, I've seen that, it's very involved your looking at 1-2 hours per miniature with somewhere over 100 miniatures, there is no chance of me doing this. On side note, why do they do each section seperately on a different miniature? and not step by step on one miniature? The Denison smocks look overly done too, especially after viewing real examples on line.

However Vertrurcio, if you find any short cuts or it turns out it's quite quick PM and I'll happily take your advice on it. Thanks.

I haven't actually started on all my stuff yet.

I'm mainly using their guide for colors. In reality, I'm skipping most of the detail work like highlighting.

The plan is to prime black, then airbrush on the primary smock color over everything. Then hand paint on the other main colors. Then very quickly apply camouflage.

I want my FoW stuff painted, but it's not my primary game so I'm not going to get as detailed as I usually do.

Yeah I use a Block colour basecoat, add a few fine details and then wash it with Ogryn Flesh or a something to bring it all together. I will try a Black wash as Brit Para's have a fair bit of Brown rather than Green. I am watching "A bridge too Far for inspiration" and slow motioning the Arnhem bits for inspiration.

I'm not too sure you really need to do the soot effect in my experience. A basecoat and wash over black undercoat comes up pretty dulled on 15s.

I followed the D-1 paint scheme and what I found in A bridge too FAr and managed this without too much problems (note to self - finish this force!)

Re a short cut for Denison camo, use an old brush that is splaying at the tip and stipple each colour on. Very quick especially if you remember the 3 foot rule.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Sorry re-read the OP and English Uniform from Vallejos FoW range would be a good base for the entire mini. The smocks and trousers both start with that colour. I think that they do differently named equivalents in their other ranges i.e. model air for spraying.

Army painter almost certainly do their version of it.

You are a Legend...Using a splayed old brush, I have 3 that are perfect for this. I will stiple the Denison Smocks, and do all that, then use my vallejo's to do the Trousers, boots, webbing and weapons neating as I go.

English Uniform Vallejo it is then. Otherwise what is the closest approximation of the colour? Is it a Tan, a Kharki a variable green (e.g Olive, Army Green, verdant green). It's just your miniatures look quite different in the 2 different light sources used in the Photos' (one very yellow, and other natural Bluish light!).

Thanks NOTPROP that was exactly the kind of effect I wanted and I want my Units to look as good as yours (A high end tabletop look!).

Yeah it's an olive green, for the amount that I use English Uniform (allot!) could be worth picking up a bottle. (awful photos, that's why you shouldn't use a phones camera!)

I note that Hobbycraft still have 20% off FoW at the moment If there is one near you you might consider the UK paint set, it included all of the colours I used for the Paras.

Yup, I have a Hobby craft 1/2 mile by Cardiff City Football ground. I already have an Olive Green Army Painter Colour Spray so I will base them, polyfill the base add some details and then spray them olive green. If these are as quick as my Lehr I'll do an Army in a week (I paint like a man possessed and I have long periods of leave).
