Hi all i was just wondering the rules regarding non gamesworkshop models. Im starting a new ACW guard army based on the North and i want to use a diffrent brand of minitures which are proper ACW but still 28mm. If i mounted them on GW bases would it be ok? I have no idea. They are so much cheaper (£18 for 36) than using Iorn Guard. Could i use them in normal 40k games? Thanks for the help.

It is all up to your opponent/TO/store owner, though you definitely won't be able to use them in GW stores.

I believe most official tournaments want the models to be over 50% GW stuff

As far as your opponent goes, usually if it is not a tourney you will find that coolness factor plays a part. One guy I have played has carved chimeras out of styrofoam (crappy), Another guy today used a 18" alien queen as a huge Nid (cool)

Define 'official'. I run 'official' tournaments and could care less. If by 'official' you mean sponsored by GW, then yeah, GW events pretty much require you to use GW models. Non-GW events usually could care less.

As long as the models are WYSIWYG, I wouldn't care.

Actually last GW event I went to the guy said the rule of thumb is 60% GW and 40% something else. Cause a guy made a battlewagon using some dollar store knock off GI Joe tank as a base and COVERED the thing in ork plates, ork guns, and the orks themselves. The coolest thing was the sound thing on the tank still worked as press a button and you get machine gun or missile launching sounds. And the GW store let him use it.

Agreed with the general consensus: it depends on your opponent and event organisers/store owners. In friendlies played at home, I doubt you'll have any issues at all; in GW stores they'll probably have a problem with it. The whole point of allowing gaming in-store is to promote the store's products.

Couldn't care less.

Here at our FLGS they usually allow it, but not on tournies. As they require at least 50% GW before conversions.

I have heard anywhere from 50% to full models for GW events, but the magic number seems to be 60-80%. This is, of course, all subject to the rule of cool. If you have a 80% GW battle wagon that looks like steaming feth while the guy next to you has a 60% converted one that looks like it was made with Gork's blessing, guess who is being removed first.

Also remember that nobody is going to disassemble it and count. If you put enough GW bits and insignia on something, it will LOOK 50% gw even if it's not actually part by part 50%

Remember they let a TON of greenstuff scratchbuilt stuff slide and some of that doesn't have bits by ANY company.

Well Greenstuff is commonly sold by Citadel though, so GW's seeing some coin on that action as well. lol

Yea though other than Ard Boyz and a few other large scale tournies there shouldnt be an issue

As with most modeling questions: who the hell knows? It all depends on the opponent.
