Storm Trooper with Maglight

(If the following is in the wrong section, I'm sorry, I wasn't quite sure where this would go.)
So I was looking at the 40k Rule Book, and I stumbled across the Night Fighting rule, and a thought hit me.
Sometimes, gamers like to feel as if they are actually doing strategies under the same circumstances as in the scenario, so I came up with an idea.
What if I were to make a gaming table for 40k that had it's own light source, and you could switch between regular florescent lights and black lights with the switch of a button? The regular light would be day time fighting, and the black light would be night fighting.
Thoughts, comments, and concerns please.

It sounds pretty cool if it's done right. Are you talking about using some lightsource above the table that mimicks moonlight, or are you going to build tiny floodlights and such?

I'm thinking a black light that mimics the moon, but is able to illuminate the entire battlefield under the black light's color. It would be above the battle board.

As long as you can find the right lights that will give you the look you're going for. The plan you posted looks very similar to theatrical light rigs and rail systems. You could even go as far as having certain units lit during each turn to represent a Fog of War effect. But as Inanimate said it sounds cool if it can be done right.

How about instead of Fog of War, we say that anything within Line of Sight can be shot at, but things not in line of sight cannot?

Do you mean in a way different than the normal LOS rules?

I've actually adapted a set of rules for dawn/dusk fighting. Units attacking in the direction of the horizon sun suffer a LOS Acquisition penalty (as under night fighting). Mixes things up a bit. Interesting to play under a black light though.... wopuldnt have to install it on the table, could just as easy put it in the room.

To glimpse the future, you must look to the past and understand it. Names may change, but human behavior repeats itself. Prophetic insight is nothing more than profound hindsight.
It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from. |

Why not just use a blacklight bulb in the room that you normally play in?

I'm pretty sure that a black light bulb in my living room is not a good idea.
