I'm looking to do a bit of converting on some drop pods that I just recently purchased.
I was thinking of putting them at an angle on a CD base and crashing into a swamp. My marines are based swamp like and I would like to make it look as though the pod is crashing into this same swamp. I'm not worried about the doors opening as this is more of a scenic type of deal.
The question is, does anyone know how to model splashing water that I would like to have up and around the drop pod? I will be painting the water a sickly type of green so the actual color of whatever substance I'll be using won't matter, just the structure.
Thanks!

I used acryllic gel at around £5 a tube to make waves for my battleship base; I'll try and post a pic to see if it's any good to you.

I wonder if(simply an idea, not sure if it would work) you could also use watered down PVA glue to make the swamp base, and then use straight PVA layered up to make the splash effects, then coat the whole thing with water effects and green ink? I'm just wondering if that would work, since I already bought Woodland's Realistic Water and don't want to buy the product used there(though it does look nice!), and I would like to accomplish the same effect.
I'm very interested in seeing how this turns out, for both of you. I'll be watching this thread, and if I do any experimenting of my own I'll post the results(if they're any good, that is).

Hi lajollagrad, hope this helps. I created this unfinished base using a mixture of acrylic gel and GW Green Stuff; the gel I used seems to be similar to the water effect suggested by GiraffeX. I used a medium thickness of gel because I didn't want too high waves etc, but if you're going for quite tall and complex water effects then a thicker gel is better suited.
Unfortunately I've yet to add the bow-wake, which would have been the most splashy part of the piece! It's worth noting that since I was aiming to create the effect of the deep Atlantic Ocean I just painted the wooden base dark blue and applied the gel; I don't know if you want your swamp water to be transparent, or very muddy. Also, these kind of gels are designed for structuring but like any semi-liquid there's only so much you can do in one go; if you're getting into difficulty then remember you can build your effect one layer at a time and add the next once the first has dried. It's my first water effect base and took a bit of getting used to, but the tutorial GiraffeX posted seems to have it all surrounded quite nicely and is probably your best bet.

Thank you for the pic RossDas, I am definitely looking for something a bit bigger and splashier if one could call it that.
Giraffe, do you know how long it takes to build up that kind of effect? I understand that that particular technique could work but it just seems like it would take years to get the water up high enough to show even a slight amount of the impact of a drop pod.
I was actually thinking of perhaps using some bent paperclips as some kinda structure and then using hot glue around the paper clip. No idea how well hot glue would work as a watery substance look (I am painting over it remember).
Any more ideas are welcome!

What about Hot Glue? That stuffs hardens really quickly, and you can get pretty good sized "splashes" out of it. I'm assuming that you want really big splashes, and a huge hunk of metal hitting water at 300 mph isn't going to make a little splish splash.
