Mission: Line Breaker (Battle missions book)

Gork and Mork were substituted for the Baneblades in this mission. Since they move 12 inches a turn the standard setup would not work so the full length of a 6x4 table was used instead, effectively meaning it would take them 5 turns to get off the board, 6 if they were slowed at all.

Forces:

Orks
Stompa (Gork)
Mekboy Gargant (Mork)
1250

Eldar
Farseer – fortune, guide, runes of witnessing
2 x 5 Fire Dragons in Waveserpent with shirken cannon and scatter laser
3 X Wraithguard with Warlock – spiritseer, conceal
2 x 10 Guardians - bright lance, scatter laser
2 x Warwalker – double bright lances
Falcon – bright lance
1228

(from memory)

Gork and Mork totalled 1250 points so the Eldar had that to spend on their FOC. No restrictions applied to this as per the mission rules.

Deployment:
Orks
There wasn’t a lot of terrain in the Ork deployment zone so they setup centrally hoping to get to the first bunker on their left for some cover and proceed from there.

Eldar
Under the mission rules the Eldar could start with 500 points on the board (no restrictions), the rest arriving as per normal reserve rules.
Both wave serpents were setup behind the second bunker to the Gargants left for cover. The idea was to let the Gargants move a turn or two and then boost in behind them, deposit the FDs and take rear armor shots.
The last of their points deployed the bright lance Guardian squad in a central building with a very good field of fire.

Nightfight rules applied in turn 1.

Eldar T1
The bright lance popped a shot off at Gork (Stompa) but with nightfight in effect it fell short. Both Serpents held positions.

Ork T1
Both Gargants moved forward their full 12 inches. Gork took the lead moving towards the bunker on their left. Mork (Mekboy Gargant) followed.
Gork fired on the Guardian squad with 3 bigshootas and rolled 30 for nightfight. Following up with the Deffgun/kannon combo 6 Guardians were killed but they passed their break test. Mork then shot his bigshootas at them but was out of range with NF in play.

Eldar T2
The Farseer, second Guardian squad, one Warwalker and Wraithguard all arrived from reserve.
Seeing which side the Gargants were moving up, the WG deployed accordingly. The Guardians took up position in a tall building with good LOS at the edge of the board.
One WS moved out slightly from behind the bunker to try and disable Morks power fields (2) with its scatter laser. The Farseer cast fortune on the Guardian squad closest to him (we forgot here that their weapon platforms could move and shoot unfortunately).
The WS hit but failed to penetrate a shield (AV12). The bright lance on the forward Guardian squad fired as did the WW but all rolls were poor to hit/wound.

Orks T2
Both Gargants again moved the maximum of 12. Mork shot first firing all 3 suparokkits at the exposed WS. Scoring 3 hits and 2 pens resulted in it being wrecked. The Fire Dragons disembarked with no casualties. Gork again fired all 3 big shootas at the Guardians in the central building wiping them out. The Deffgun/kannon missed badly vs the recently arrived Warwalker.

Eldar thoughts
So far things had not gone well. Losing the first Waveserpent was a silly and unnecessary mistake, its primary role was to get the FDs into range of the Gargants and then pot shot if it could, not expose itself so early. Rolling in general had not been good either, with a decent amount of bright lances things should have been better. Losing the forward Guardian squad was a blow but was expected given their position to the Gargants. High str rear armour shots needed to be utilised more.

Ork thoughts
So far we wuz givin dem pointy ponces a gud beatin’. No damage to da boyz and loads of elfs dead. We wuz dead ‘appy.

Eldar T3
No more of the Eldar reserves arrived this turn. The WG moved further forward to get in range of the Gargants with their weapons. The FDs moved from the wreckage of the WS behind the aegis line for cover. The Farseer fortuned and guided the Guardian squad in the rear building who shot at Gork but were out of range. The WW moved further forward to get in range hitting Gork and scoring a pen causing a crew shaken result.

Ork T3
Entering difficult terrain Gork had to take a test but passed. Mork moved up behind him and turned to shoot the FDs near the bunker. With a 4+ save from the ADL only two were killed under fire from the bigshootas and Gaze of Mork. Gork shot his bigshootas at the fortuned Guardians but only killed two. The Deffgun/kannon however destroyed the WW.

End of T3

Eldar T4
The rest of the Eldar reserves arrived consisting of the second WW and the Falcon. Taking a risk the Falcon moved into a crater to get the best LOS on the Gargants and passed its DT test. The FDs near the bunker moved downhill to get in range of Mork. The second WS moved flat out behind the large central building ready to release its FD squad for the next turn. The Wraithguard again moved up, getting into range of Gork. With a 5+ conceal save there was little point staying back among cover.
The FDs fired at Mork scoring 3 hits and taking down one of his powerfields.
The rear Guardian squad then fired along with the second WW taking down a further shield. All 3 Wraithguard opened up on Mork scoring 2 hits but only managing one glancing hit which resulted in a weapon stunned result.

Ork T4
Gork passed the second difficult terrain test rolling a lucky 6 and moved forward the full 12 inches. Mork moved up behind him but only managed 7 inches through difficult terrain. There was now quite a gap between them which could be exploited
Gork fired at the falcon with all 3 of his suparokkits but only managed to get a crew shaken result. The bigshootas all fired on the WG but with some poor to hit rolls and conceal in play did not kill any.
Morks main weapon had been dmaaged last turn so the secondaries fired on the Dragons but failed to kill any.

Eldar T5
The first Fire Dragon squad moved up to a second ADL behind Mork. The second squad disembarked and took up position behind Gork. Their WS moved 12 to manovure behind Mork.
The WG held their ground as did the rear Guardian squad. Both the WG and FDs fired on Gork scoring 2 glancing hits and one penetrating hit. The two glances rolled 6s causing two drive damaged results, resulting in Gork being immobilised. The second FD squad fired also, penetrating and rolled another amazing 6 causing a structure point to be lost and a reroll which caused a crew shaken result.

At this point we called it, neither Gargant could reach the table edge – Gork was immobilised and Mork couldnt manouver through the scenery. We played the final two turns however to see if they could finsih off the last of the Eldar.

Ork T5
Mork rolled poorly on the difficult terrain test scoring 4 inches so shuffled forward. The Lifta droppa grabbed the Waveserpent and with a very lucky roll on the scatter duely dumped it ontop of the far bunker insta gibbing it (impassable terrain).
The remining weapons wiped out the FDs.

Gork fired on Falcon with the deffgun but only managed a crew shaken resuklt. Ther Supagatler then unleasehed on the Guardian squad rolling a 12 for number of hits and killing two. They failed their break test and ran off the baord. Rerolling for the gatlers second burst scored another 12 and the Eldar Farseer was annhilated but ammo was now expended.

Eldar T6
Both the WG and the Falcon fired into Gork but with poor rolling only scored a weapon shaken result choosing the deffgun.
The remaining FDs fired on Mork and scored a drive damaged result reducing his movement to 6. Nothing else remained of the Eldar forces at this point.

Ork T6
The lifta droppa again hit and picked up the Falcon dumping it close tot he table edge (rules wise is it possible to move it off the board?). Taking 4 glancing hits resulted in immbolised and one weapon destroyed result.
Mork swivelled around and fired on both the WG and FDs with all weapons, killing the WGs Warlock but failing to hit the FDs. The game concluded.

Overall a very fun game, something different for sure. Having only two units with limited weaponary and fire arcs really makes one think and have to plan accordingly which was very enjoyable. In hindsight, we probably should have started the Gargants forwards another 6 inches maybe, with difficult terrain and drive damaged results, it was alays going to be tough to move 12 inches a turn every turn to finished the mission. A game of two halves in terms of rolling with the Eldar having very poor hits/wound in the first half but picking up well in the second and the Gargants with poor damages rolls late on. Very happy with the FDs/WG they peformed very well dealing the majority of the damage to the Gargants. Forgot about the lift droppa early on which could have made a difference. As Eldar only having 500 at the start is very daunting but exciting too.
Thanks for reading!

Nope You can't force a unit off the board short of fall back. All FAQ have all forced movement stopping at board edge or in the rare case destroying the unit.

Thanks TD, we werent sure.

@ Rocky1, thanks mate, Eldar only having 500 on the board at the start was really trippy!
But with literally only 2 units the Gargants had to be really specific with their target aquisiton and priority.

Very fun if you can try the scenario
