So I have been stumped for a while now as to which SM chapter I want to choose... and I have now decided I'd like to base it on 2 things... In order...

Easy To paint colour scheme!
and Fluff.

So I am here to ask which chapters are easy to paint so I can start to wittle them down?
and if you like, any ideas on easy colours to paint not based on a particular chapter as I have not yet ruled out the chance of creating my own chapter...

Many thanks!

And if anyone would like to help on the fluff side you can find the thread here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/404291.page

thanks again!

Are we talking about known established chapters of home-made ones?

I would say Blood Angels, as well.

Spraypaint red, Ogryn Flesh wash (or Ball Red), add black banding and you are done.

The normal ultramarine scheme seems pretty easy. Blue armour then paint the details and give the whole thing a wash with something like badab black.

Blood Angels sound good! I'll need to look further into their fluff but the painting seems do-able! many thanks - and even though I like UM no-one else would ever game with me again if I was to choose them haha, thanks for the suggestion none the less

any other suggestions?

black templar? HIghlighting them well would be tough but if you could pull it off it'd look really nice

In the battlefield

Black templar. spray black. paint shoulders white. done? add detail to your liking afterthat.

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

All the official codex chapters are pretty easy to paint (except Imperial Fists because of all the yellow) - how much detail you put into each is up to you.

I would concur with the others, that Blood Angels would be your best choice painting and fluff wise.

Everyone says Black Templars, but forget an even easier scheme; Raven Guard.

Prime black, paint weapon silver, eyes and right shoulder trim red and done.

Raven guard. Red is actually hard to paint.

Blood Angels. I vote against Black Templars because it involves painting white over black. May take several tries to get that right. With Blood Angels, you spray red and you're already 90% finished.

TYRANID ARMY and more for sale. Many Price Drops. 40K and More.

Creeping on my threads again Tom! Haha I'm a busy man and wouldn't have the time or patience for the yellow... Yes I do love IF but it's just too much - perhaps once I get more practice painting properly I'll have that time to build my dream IF army lol

blood angels are looking promising! And I agree I very much like black Templars for a lot of reasons but I couldn't handle the white on black as it's a toughy to make it look right

I'm currently looking further into the blood angels fluff so I'll let you know and which ever I go with I'll create a blog for it and I hope all you knowledgable people will point out ways to improve my painting!

Many thanks to you all for all the help!

Make your own chapter. Black with gold trim. Spray black then a little gold for contrast, and gun metal for weapons. Done. Alternately, use copper instead of gold.

Any of the main chapters from the dex, paint them one color(be it blue, red, green, black, etc) and you're 90% done. Personally i think SM are one of the easiest armies to paint

Black templars are actually not that easy to do right - I would suggest Salamanders - cool fluff and relatively easy paintjob.

My 2 cents. Any of the single color patterns would be relatively easy. How difficult they would be will all depend on how much detail you put into them.

Salamanders, Ultra Marines, Blood Angels, Raven Guard and Death Angels would be the ones to get my vote.

If you want easy painting, Black Consuls.
They are featured in Codex Space Marines, in the section with the chapters and armour pictures.
They are what I started with for exactly that reason, nice easy paint job.

Another advantage of a chapter you create is that you can make up whatever fluff you want. That's the beauty of this hobby.

I second black and gold homebrew, but I'm probably biased as that's what my own chapter wears.
