Hey everyone, I just painted up my first model of the new necron range to keep my old necrons company. I liked the 'eavy metal version so much I only deviated from it in small things. The shoulders and OSL came out better than I expected them to. Let me know what you think!

Wow, that's a nice blue on the shoulders! What color(s) did you use there? The metallic red cape is great as well.

That's hawk turqouse with ice blue and skull white. Glad you like it.

He's looking great Robbie, how'd you do the cloak? That's come out looking spectacular, any more views of the model?

I'd get some gloss varnish on the blood on his base to make it look nice and shiny, also paint the rim, it'll make things look nice 'n' smooth!

Keep up the good work.

The cloak was pretty easy, chaos black undercoat, two layers of dwarf bronze, and then a heavy wash of badab black and baal red. Pretty happy with how that came out myself.

And you're right, still need to varnish the model.

Thanks for the feedback!

Cool!

Amazing, that's a Finecast with a staff that looks strait isn't it! (I saw 2 of those hopelessly bent at my LGS).

I like the shoulders best, from the back it almost looks like waves!

Humorously intended, the rez orb looks slightly watermelon like.

I'm glad you like it! The staff is not completely straight to be honest, and it took some work with a blowdryer to get it almost straight.

as requested by byronic two more views

A BLOWDRYER? Really? Well done, I wouldn't have guessed that would work, good job, looks pretty strait to me! COOL.

I wanted to complement on the light sourcing, also neat!

A blowdryer works really well, just heat the staff up and gently (can't emphasise this enough) push it straight and hold it in place for a little while.

Mine was snapped out of the box - I need to replace it with a plastic warscythe anyway, but finecast is terrible.

The mini is awesome, and I'm stealing your cloak technique

This is my first Finecast model and it looks it's also going to be the last... Love the model, but finecast is a horrid material to work with...
- staff simply snapped in my hand with no apparent reason...
- the "scarf" piece snapped in two when cutting it out of the sprue
- whole model is full of little bubble holes, lotta greenstuff will be needed here
- had trouble gluing it's scrony, twitchy legs to the base

OP, I salute your patience and admite the overall effect - I feel like im going through personal hell making my Overlord, and I haven't even got to basecoat yet :/

Well we have a saying that copying someone is the best compliment ^^ so by all means do, I've 'stolen' enough ideas from others myself so

and thanks for the nice reactions guys! always nice to hear when people like your work

the other views look great Robbie, I'd paint those base rims to make things look extra neat maybe (I use calthan brown/graveyard earth mix quite a lot, covers over black in 1 go)

Please don't take this the wrong way, but the shoulders (and cape) are so good that they make the rest of the mini pale in comparison a little, I think a wash and a quick highlight on the silver body parts may help this out, just my opinion there though.

Thanks for the advice byronic ^^ and yeah I was surprised at how well the shoulders and cape came out myself

I just received my own Overlord yesterday (haven't gotten around to painting any Necrons yet though - have to finish those damned Savage Orcs!), and I just love your model. I was looking for something like that for the shoulderpads only I am thinking of doing it in a much darker blue background, Midnight blue or Necron Abyss maybe. Great work, got any pics of the rest of your army? Still looking for ideas for my very own Tomb World...

Sorry just noticed you do have another thread with pics of the rest of your army. Going to comment on that too probably...
