Human Auxiliary to the Empire

Hi everybody. I am new to warhammer 40k and have decided to play tau. I realized at once that I wanted to make a good tau board for my minis to play on. So I have been looking around on the internet and have found some interesting tau structures like these. Problem is, I have no idea how to make something like that! Could somebody please tell me how to make something like this? Money is no object so suggest whatever you want!

They used upside plant pots for the basis of them in some cases. Mostly it's a lot of scratch building.

Since you probably lack the availability of modelling clay, you could always go to a craft store and get some foam shapes (like the balls and such), then just use a hobby knife or find shapes you find especially "tau"-y

PVC is your friend. You can find all sorts of caps and pipe for cheap. It looks great, and its easy to convert. I suggest using a hot glue gun to put it together though, cause super glue probably wont hold well.
The good thing about PVC is that you can get that nice, seamless circular feel the Tau architecture has. Not to mention you can usually make all the builds have removeable tops, which is a cool little easter egg for any table!
Best of luck mate!

Thanks for your input guys! I am considering going down to the craft store and see what I can find! By the way are those weapons in the bunkers rail guns?

The "area denial nodes" (aka Railgun bunkers) used twin HAMMERHEAD railguns.
The pits themselves were made from push-on/push-off lighting module things (battery-LED things you can get cheaply).
The landing platform was a drip tray for a round plant pot.

The round, smooth shapes Tau architecture employs are hard to build from scratch, but dead easy to find in existing products: PVC endcaps and/or plastic planters, bowls, and plates for the bunkers. The barricade looks like simple wooden molding (hard to tell from this pic size what they did to the backs of them).
There are enough weapons/sensors/antennae on Tau models and vehicles that you should be able to copy the feel without too much trouble, just by looking at your army. Just be sure you've got some putty/filler on hand to clean up your joins for that sleek Tau look.

These are models by the GW terrain building team, they even made moulds for them. They just couldn't be tricked into pouring some resin into the moulds and sell the modells:

I hope that someday someone ( GW or not) will sell Tau terrain other than the FW turrets.
