Here's a quick announcement for this years St. Valentines Day Massacre Grand Tournament. A full rules pack will be up in a couple of weeks.

You can check out http://www.showcasecomicsandgames.net/svdm40kgrandtournament.htm for information on the tournament, a short but growing FAQ, and list of attendees.

I'm limiting it this year to 32 players. That's how many 8 foot tables I can easily put in the store, and also lets me give out an undeated prize after 5 games. It means we will most likely sell out. If you want to play, reserve your spot . In the past, we held the event in an additional space in the mall, that had access to a courtyard. With the expansion to the new store, we'll be holding the event inside the store. Better venue, but a bit more limited.

For those that like WFB, I'll also be holding a Warbands tournament on Friday night, with very small armies, using a system we are working on now for a league, and will be playing at Dakkacon in January.

The structure to SVDM will be similar to other years: 5 games over 2 days, with primary/secondary/tertiary objectives. Quite a few changes though. Instead of the usual Best 1/2/3 x Overall/Paint/General, I'm going to have more specific awards, and custom trophies for those awards. Prizes will be fairly spread out. Catagories will be things like:

-The Highlander (Undefeated Player)

-Master of the Ordo Mechanicus (Best painted imperial army).

-Dark Artizan of the Void (Best Enemy of the Imperium army.)

-Lord of Terra (Most battle points, Imperial army.)

-Galactic Scourge (most battle points, Enemies of the Imperium)

-Da Big Mek! (Best converted army from either side.)

-Lord Inquisitor (best overal Imperial)

-Hivemind (best overall Enemy of the Imperium)

Maybe a couple of more like this, or 2nd, 3rd places, etc.

Imperial - IG, all manner of SM, GK, SOB,

Enemies of the Imperium- Ork, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Tau, Demons, Nids, Chaos

Missions will be three tiered. If you win the Alpha condition, it's a Win, and over half the victory points. Undefeated players will be matched up in further rounds until we get one undefeated person at the end. He may or may not have the most battle points.

Food will be like I served at Border Raids - Plentiful, tasty, and included in the price of your ticket.

Cost is 60.00 You can pay at the shop, or by paypal at

When you show up for the tournament.) Basically, I'm looking for a legible army list, several copies, and check it over thoroughly to make sure you don't have errors.

(General thoughts on turning in lists).
Over the years I've come to the conclusion that it's easier to check over lists at the tournament itself, than work to get everyone to turn a list in ahead of time. Just bring about 5 copies of your list, (Army Builder preferred), with all relevant details spelled out, points double checked, and in a legible format. The tournament is open list, so your opponents are free to ask for a copy and check things over. I check most lists as well.

But in the end, it's the players responsibility to get their list right. If someone has an incorrect list, it will be dealt with based on the level of infraction. If I judge it to be an honest mistake, the penalty is small. In the case of someone doctoring army builder (and I have seen that recently at a GT) you're disqualified.

Different formats or a larger number of people might need a different system, but for this event, just bring the copies of your list along with you.

Haven't set the schedule in stone yet. Either 2 hours 15 minutes or 2 hours 30 minutes. Working on the final rules pack this week.

I'm thinking I need a bigger store, only 3 spots left.)
