Hey All,

I've been looking over Airbrushes and Compressors, and I've still got questions. I love the versatility of the Aztek airbrushes, and the fact that it's so easy to use and clean. The only thing I'm not sure of, is seeing it in action. Maybe my searching isn't that great, but I didn't see much on youtube.

I'm considering getting a Master Precision Detail Control G444 because it also seems like it's versatile and a great brush for the money. I'm just worried about all the bits and bobs and cleaning.

The other one I'm thinking about is the Iwata Eclipse HP CS.

Things to consider is I've only got about $200 to spend, and it has to be via Amazon. I'd definitely consider getting an Aztek and a Master Precision Detail Control G4 as long as I can get a good compressor at the same time.

So you have $200? Before you go the Amazon route head down to the local hobby shop or if they closed like they did here try a place like Harbor Freight. You can find a good deal on compressor/tank set ups. You can also piece a setup your self so it is what you want. As for other pieces you'll need a regulator and a water trap / strainer so you don't screw up your paint when it hit's the work. One more place a buddy of mine mentioned is a store that sells paint sprayers for body and fender work.

I have used Azteks myself almost since they came out and got a good deal back in the day for a compressor. Sadly the time has come to replace the compressor after 15 years of faithful service. I would go the custom route so you know what you have. Also it is sometimes cheaper to get the pump one place and the tank and the rest somewhere else.

At the moment I am trying to convince my wife that I really do need the compressor, tank, and manifold for six (included) airbrushes. It may not be practical, but I REALLY, REALLY, NEED IT!

Hmm, not a bad idea. I have a Gift Certificate for Amazon that would cover the Aztek, then I could get the Compressor at HF...

Ive only ever heard bad things about aztek, id avoid them like the plague.

What about something like these? You could keep the single action brush for scenery or ebay it for a few bucks.

Paasche D3000R Compressor - Very, Very good compressor... had mine for 2 months now, using almost every day. Reliable, and powerful. Puts out more than enough for any gravity fed air brush.

Iwata Revolution HP-BR - This is basically a cheaper version of the HP-CS (slightly smaller needle size, smaller cup size). It will be PERFECT for painting infantry models from start to finish (basing + some detailing), and will be fine for doing vehicles / monstrous creatures, though it will take 2-3 fills of paint to do it. Iwata makes very high quality airbrushes (I own two, love em both to death), and this should work fine for a first brush for you.

How about this one? http://www.amazon.com/Paasche-TG-100D-Gravity-Airbrush-Compressor/dp/B002N0QA8Q/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1324946203&sr=8-14

I'm kinda going back and forth, because it's the same compressor I can get at Harbor Freight with an airbrush kit for $89. I'm thinking of doing that, and ordering a nicer airbrush via Amazon as I've got a gift certificate. I'd of course like to get something good for detail work.

You really want a compressor with a tank, and you do not want a crappy harbor freight compressor.

I'm still doing my homework The Paasche and Harbor Freight compressors...are the same! The only thing different is the paint job and labels. Further research also reveals that the Master series of airbrush are the same as Iwata. So basically, it's like buying Super Market O's vs Cheerios, they are both the same product different box labels.

I've been doing hours and hours of reading and youtube video watching

My expensive iwata smart jet pro doesn't have a tank either so a tank isnt the be all and end all.

That being said, ive got no idea about the quality of harbour freight or cheaper paasche compressors.

Haha I never knew shopping for an Airbrush would be sooooo confusing. It's something I asked for, as a combined gift for my birthday and Christmas. All I asked for was a dual action gravity fed with a compressor. If it had just shown up, it would have made things much easier I suppose

Nothings ever easy

Automatically Appended Next Post:
the Master G44 seems to have a 0.2 needle which will be fine with properly thinned airbrush paints but might cause issues with thinned vallejo model colour or thinned gw.

Have you actually somewhere that says the harbour freight is a rebranded paasche? Or just based on the looks?

I did, in the hundreds of articles I've read and watched. I wish I had bookmarked it for examples sake.

I'm looking particularly at the G444, which comes with .2 .3 and .5 tips so I can really run the gamut.

I'm still researching, here is a review I found that compares it with the same Iwata, including schematics.

With the three needles it should be fine then. Assuming it is a rebadged paasche, at that price it might be worth trying it

I imagine this kind of stuff sells very well on ebay in as new condition if you dont get on with it.

I see you've got a lot of feedback already... but I would suggest checking out the Iwata NEO ...it is very cheap and perfectly suited to our purposes; I think they were specifically targeted at our hobby... they come with the 5 year Iwata warranty which is top notch.

I appreciate all the info and suggestions! I've 99% decided to go with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KT0QPS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A23ADOZFIJNPFB. I figure I'll get everything I need: Tank Compressor, Varied control over brush results because of different sizes, and easy to replace parts. I figure it will be a great start, and if I find myself really taking off with it I'll upgrade then

Thanks everyone, if there are any other comments go ahead and leave them here!
