New Year and New Space Marine Chapter!

Sucks having to start over again on everything but here we go. After being advised by my customers I decided to start posting my current project up on the site. I am near complettion of my Deathwatch Army, just need to finish 1 1/2 squads, librarian and chaplain. I will post them in the finished blog section of pics soon, maybe a few here for opinions. However, I digress, I realized Ive been painting the same way for years with somewhat good success. I decided to purchase 2 books and try out techniques that I barely used. (How to Paint Citadel Miniatures and 'Eavy Metal Masterclass btw). After having so many gloomy, dark armies, I decided it was time to go a bit brighter and a new scheme, new theme, etc.

So I came up with the Kraken Chapter (thanks to my friends who saved me from the embarassing Coast Guard color scheme). This chapter, will have a slight pacific islander, tribal like theme, in weapons, tattoo designs, etc. Im basing them on black templar btw (I know a contradiction) but the way I wanna play them it fits, plus I never use vehicles so this is a chance to tackle lots of land raiders. Ok enough talk, here is the "test" model for my chapter, using simple techniques of painting, washing and line highlights. The next model will be using similar techniques but with the added benefit of non-metallic metallics.

Like I said this is just the test bed model. Limited highlighting, limited detailing.
Also helps to add the right photos:

Great mini, the scheme is simple yet complementary and the pose is superb.

When you say you will be basing this on the BT am I right to assume you just mean in terms of unit type and play style or will you be using the BT range of minis too?

No trees were hurt in the making of this sig, however many electrons were disturbed.

You are correct in regards to unit type. I dont plan on using any of the mini's range. The shoulder pads I will be using are currently GW's Alpha Legion, so Im snagging them up for this project. As I am now getting in full swing, I will start showing before and afther models too and conversions in step process for the complicated ones. Will put up next wave tommorow.

Ok got some additions to my starting line up of models. They are nearly finished with the prep phase...so in about a day or two I will start the painting and post the works in progress.

First up is my Master of Sanctity. Using Coteaz, minus the inquisitor symbols and silly hourglass. Got to add on a couple bits to belt but he is essentially done.

Here are some of the members of the first crusader squad. not sure about the bare arms yet.

Thats all for todays update. As a shameless plug, if you like this stuff im putting up, please visit my facebook page in my signature line...trying to get more likes

Ok here is a slight update. Trying a different gold on the chapter shoulder pad. This is one of my other chaplains. Tried to do a side by side comparison but if you cant make out details on the first model, just scroll to earlier post to see difference. I would appreciate comments, as I am trying to determine which gold techniques fits best.

This is not a gold shoulder pad but a bone colored (layered) for the chaplains other shoulder pad.

Great work as always! You should post up some of your Fantasy miniatures! I'm looking forward to more of the Krakens!

The shoulder armor I've seen in the Chaos Marauders box, I might have a few extra if you need them.

Ok heres some more sorry for the slow update but working for gw doesnt always allow alot of paint time home or work. The pictures im showing are of one of my first land raider crusaders. Im not a fan of tanks but i figure once in my 20+ years of this hobby I should do it. Why am I painting the interior? I...really dont have an answer lol. Maybe someday it will give me an edge in a contest? only applied first layers of paint and washes. got to tighten up the paint a bit.

I will post another shoulder pad in a few days, painted with a different non-metallic metallic technique.

Thanks everyone. Here is the third concept for the chapter symbol. Using a different 12 step process for painting non-metallic metallic from the Masterclass book. I rushed this a bit but I think it came out good. Please let me know which everyone prefers...opinions are very much welcome

All three color concepts: 12 step, 6 step and metallic step

Once I get everyones opinion on the chapter symbol color scheme, then I can kick this project into full gear.

The 12 step one looks super awesome. The pose is also very sweet. And his face is..... Great work.
