While not strictly legal, it has been done many times over the years and I would guess most players wouldn't object to such a conversion if it is well done. That said, I would bring it up with any opponent before a game (or with a TO before a tournament). The sticking point is that the front arc of a Landraider is considerably wider than that of a stock Battlewagon, so some may consider it modeling for advantage.

There is nothing illegal or otherwise for using this. This has been done before on numerous occasions. Some guys kit-bash different models together to make another model. If looks good then have fun playing with it.

Yeah, there's nothing illegal about it. I use two: an old Space Wolves landraider that my roommate passed on to me when I started my army, which he had gotten second hand. Someone had taken a hacksaw to it, and he didn't want to use it despite having gotten it for free. The secondary one I use is a chaos landraider I ork'd out, as I figured the orks would love a Khorne tank that leaks blood from the treads and vents... Makes it easy to claim that RPJ, too.

I built one out of a land raider since the 3rd ed orks didn't have a battlewagon model, I still use it and not had one complaint about it.

As others have said, it's been done plenty of times, so I doubt many would take issue. Being that the footprints differ, a bit of modeling effort to shrink those discrepancies wouldn't go amiss (as well as improving the look a bit, I'd wager), though I'd be surprised of more than the odd TFG cried "modeling for advantage!"

It was fun and people really 'appreciate' the effort that went into it (though it still is a WIP).

I say go for it. Orks like to loot, so doing so is very fluffy imho. Also I find the idea of cookie-cutter ork vehicles (ie. using multiple stock BWs, etc.) to be contrary to the feel of the orks.
I have built a few off of Land Raiders myself:
Go for it.

my brother did both of his out of a predator and a manticore as the bases since they both have massive guns and lots of dakka for his boomgun. But, land raider would work fine, no one is really gonna keep you from fielding it because it's a little bigger than most tanks

The orkier you make it the better received it will be. There are a LOT of good examples of land raiders converted into battlewagons in the dakka gallery. I'd highly suggest checking them out to see what works and what doesn't and then generating a few ideas of your own.
The better it looks the more fun you'll have using it to roll over your enemies!

Just realize that in doing it, its ALOT bigger then the actual BattleWagon. That can/could be a problem on the table, but as always, rule of cool and all that.

Great idea - stops any arguments, looks cool, and very orky.

I made my first battle wagon out of a landraider kit way before GW made one. The foot print of mine is actually twice as wide as a landraider. I have used it in tournaments for years with no complaints, however it is such a large target it has a low survivability rate. It is in the process of being re-fitted with larger weapons to use as a battle fortress in big games. I say do what you want, the new ones look kind of weak in my opinion and barely fit the lore of a battle wagon. Felmid's Forge. (I say this and I own 5 of them )
