That looks quite scary, I wont be looking forward to playing that at all, But honestly I dont think that you have enough boyz for the Objective games and the Grots will just give out kill points in Annihilation, I would drop 2 squads of Grots and the power klaw and attack squig for some more boyz, you dont want the Mek in combat anyway, he just isn't built for it, plus the Dreads will be doing a lot of killing in combat that he wont need to be in there with them.

Ditch the gretchin and bring more boys. Gretchin bring very little to the table, and are essentially a one trick pony, that trick being to possibly die in lieu of another more important unit. If they don't die, they are terrible at shooting and at assault in the best of circumstances. Drop them, drop the Big Mek's Mega Blaster, and squig, both kind of point wasters in this small of a battle, and take more boys, try to get two mobs of 14 and put a PK BP nob with both. The Big Mek is basically just there to keep the Dreads and Boys alive a little longer, Nobs and Dreads will do all the damage you need in CC, so you could feasibly cut the Big Mek's PK, as he would be singled out in CC anyway.

I would run it like this.

2 Deff Dreds -- 240 pts

Bik Mek with KFF and 'Eavy Armor -- 90 pts

Boys x15 + 1 nob (16 models total) Nob with PK and BP -- 136

Do that twice for 272 points in boys mobs.

602 points total and you have slightly fewer bodies on the table, but they are all a threat. Keep em close to the for 5+ cover on the boys and 4+ cover on the Dreads. If going two points over is a big deal, drop the 'Eavy armor from the Big Mek and you are set.

Nice list and would be fun to run, what I would run myself at 600pts would be something like this.

1xBig Mek + KFF + Heavy amour

20 x Boyz + Nob, Power claw, boss pole and heavy armor
20 x Boyz + Nob, Power claw, boss pole and heavy armor
10xGrots + Runthearder

2xKannons + 2 ammo runts
2xKannons + 2 ammo runts
2xKannons + 2 ammo runts

Its tempting to put a claw on a big mek but with a 4+ save and no invul its easy for him to get taken out before he can swing, nobz in boyz squads are much better at this, as you will always here always get more boyz and at 6pts a model you have to push that advantage at low points games, you will just absolutely swamp him in models, heavy armor is a bit expensive at this points level but as long as you use it correctly it can be great. Also boss poles, not convinced at needing them in squads of 30 but in anything 20 or below they are a god send. The grot squad is a great choice for objective games. At the cost of one of your dreads you can get 6 kannons that either can shoot str8 ap3 rokkits good for AT and 3+ save armys or a Str 4 ap 5 blast template 36" for other horde armys(have to double check range) with 2 re rolls per kannon squad, thats really handy for taking out tanks and transports in the early turns, the kannons can be substituted for 3 squads of 2 twinlinked rokkit buggies to provided an kan wall type army but with greater range and will not slow your army down if you get bad run rolls, alternatively by dropping heavy armor you can get 2 squads of 5 lootas which are always good in a list

Something to note is that a Big Mek cannot take both a KFF and a Kustom Mega Blasta- he swaps his Slugga for each, and doesn't have 2 Sluggas, or else you'd be seeing lists with Mega Armoured KFF and SAG meks running around.

I'm afraid I do have to agree with the PK (and by extension, the Squig) on the Mek- if he's runnin' a KFF, he's not wanting to be in the thick of things, but rather fiddlin' in the midst of 'iz boyz without being fought.

I'd say use those points to swap one or both units of Grots for Big Guns- either Kannon, for the above-stated versatility, or Lobbas, for the range, no need of LoS, and Pinning they can cause.

You have 16 total, the +10 upgrades one boy to a nob, effectively making him 16pts. If you have to pick, always BP before armor, especially with squads of 20 or less.

I agree with steef, your nob will never need that armor save, if it comes down to him being the last model, it's pretty much over for that mob anyway. Bosspole doubles your chances of not running away once you get below 12 models, and that is arguably the most important thing in the game, especially small games. I think the list looks good, I like the fact that you have the dreads in there, just be wary of melta spam.

Go for the Boss Pole.

A decent list for 600 points. But for 600, you could do this.

HQ - 85 pts

Big Mek w/ KFF

Troops - 241 pts

Deff Dread w/ 2x DCCW
15x Boyz + Nob w/ PK and Bosspole

Heavy Support - 270 pts

3x Killa Kans w/ Rokkit Launchers
3x Killa Kans w/ Big Shootas

7 Walkers in a 600 pt game, all with a KFF save, 6 with BS3 Rokkits and Big Shootas.

I'd run a list like this- For your first two missions you can just blow up all their troops and then sit on an objective or two.

Table size is important too,

115 boss megaarmor cybork bosspole
120 3 mans
45 trukk with rokkit and boarding plank
135 bw- kannon big shoota extra armor
180 20 boyz pk nob bosspole 2 rokkits
5 points to play with besides small personal changes, like grot riggers should be on the wagon but I think I have to drop something (dont have dex on me).

the Mans might be excessive, but in such a small point game, but your opponent might not have a solid answer, I try to take a warboss at lower point games because he can be a pain to deal with. It also gives you a low amount of killpoints, where two squads of 10 grots are super easy killpoints.

if I went the other way I'd take 2 squads of 20 boys with rokkits and the bp/pk nob, and 4 kanns with a kff mek.

If you can get another 5 points, you can give the MaNz a Kombi-Rokkit and a Kombi-Skorcha, and do wound shenanigans on them.

Just for the benefit of non-UK posters, I believe the UK School League rules limit the FoC to this:

1-2 HQ
0-1 Elites
2-6 Troops
0-1 Fast Attack or 0-1 Heavy Support

I'm unsure about special characters, but the FoC restrictions are worth noting, because some of the builds suggested aren't legal by it.

Ahh, well then I still think having 3 Kans and 1 Dread is better than just 2 dreads.

huh, I played around with the idea of a dread mob list for SL, (it should be in the list of topics by my good self) but I remembered I was fighting on a 6-4 foot table and foot slogging is less than ideal :/

if you fight a gunline then this list will take a beating, it'll be interesting to see how much of a beating it will take though.

Nah. Our schools, ironically, have such strict 'no weapons' policies that even toy guns are often confiscated- even at the 28mm scale. We have Anime clubs instead.

For those intrested i played my up dated army and my score was:

Capture and control- Draw
Seize ground- Win
Anihallation- Win - what else would you expect

So not too bad. sadly the rest of my school not so good 2nd best was draw win lose. So didn't get through

Second- Ultramarines- he only had a dreadnought that could kill my deff dreads so i blew it up

Out of curiosity, how did he take out both Deff Dreads? Were they both hit in the rear by the bombardment? Or one in the rear and one covered by the marker hole? Did he remember to scatter the Bombardment the full 2D6"? Did you get Kantor into combat and manage to not kill him (remember, he isn't immune to ID, and a DCCW will ID him if he fails his Iron Halo save)?

same with the tournament although in fantasy got to paint whole army and stuggled to paint 26 space marines fully in two years :(

yeah but with the fist that dread should have killed him :? I mean OB would kill one for sure but still....

I cant see the problem with taking SC at any points level, if someone invited you to a knife fight and gave you the option to use a gun what would you do? keeping in mind that offer was given to everyone else too. your also sinking a lot of points into that model so its a bit of a risk. I took mephiston last time and true he did a lot of spanking but each time he died I had little else left to fight with

So you can't see how much harder it would be to kill an Avatar, or Ghazzy, or Abaddon at 600pts than it would be at 1500-1750pts?

It's a similar concept with taking things like Land Raiders at 500-600pts, and is exactly why Combat Patrol rules are used more often than not at those levels.

At 1500-1750pts, I can deal with SCs and still have my army left to deal with everything else, at 600pts, i'll generally have to use my entire army just to have a chance of hurting or killing a powerful SC, which leaves me at a distinct disadvantage, especially if I lose aspects of my army to the enemy. It's far easier to simply disallow SCs at low points levels like 500 and 600 and have everyone starting on much fairer ground than to allow them and simply tell people to man up.

Some SCs aren't game breaking, but a good lot can be and are at these levels, and allowing all SCs simply because some of them aren't OP, and most armies have access to their own, regardless of whether or not they're actually useful in the first place, is a crap reason, and leaves the more powerful ones open to abuse.

EDIT: Anyway, this is getting a little OT, so might be best to agree to disagree and go our seperate ways; i'm too old for the School League, so their rules don't affect me in the slightest.

I agree we disagree but I would like to point out that if your walking into a game where you know people will bring SC or AV14 tanks and fail to prepare for them then, well, prepare to fail
