The idea seemed like a fun one, so I figured I'd give building chaos zilla a try
DP w/ Wings, MoS, LoS - 155
DP w/ Wings, MoS, LoS - 155
Summoned Greater Daemon - 100
3x Chaos Dreadnought w/ TLAC, Dreadnought CCW - 390
Berzerkers (x8)
-Champion w/ PW, MB
-Rhino
-238
Plague Marines (x7)
Champion w/ PW
Melta x2
Rhino
-246
Plague Marines (x7)
Champion w/ PW
Melta x2
Rhino
-246
2x Defiler w/ TLAC, Extra CCW - 300
1x Defiler w/ TL-LC, Extra CCW - 170
Comes out to 2k even. I don't really think I like the Lascannon on the last defiler that much, but I had extra points. Any comments are appreciated.

Orkses is never beated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die so it don't count as beat. If we runs for it we don't die neither, so we can always come back for anuvver go, see! |

First off, Chaos dreads are not that effective, mostly because they have a chance of shooting at your own guys. Also, the summoned greater daemon is a pretty bad choice as well. Also....just give your defilers 2 extra DCCWs because you want them in close combat. they can only shoot 1 gun while moving, and the cannon is default, so that's what you should be shooting anyway.

actually the GW FAQ stated the Dreads' weapons fire within a 45 degree wedge of where the gun is facing. So with correct and careful placement/movement, any undesired Fire Frenzys will shoot dead space or random enemy thats unlucky enough to be in range. The belief before was that the closest thing could be behind the dread, for example a friendly unit. While Fire Frenzy will shoot friendlys, its only if they are the closest thing in that 45 degree view from the weapon. In summary, dont walk in front of your own dreads.

Well, Zilla lists require the enemy to have a bunch of anti-armor weapons, at least 2 such weapons for each of your MCs and Dreads and these weapons need to be brought to bear. In this way, Zilla is still a viable concept.

Our Dreads also have sneaky tricks. If you replace arm 1 with a DCCW, and replace the other arm with a missile launcher, it stays at 4 attacks base. Adding the extra DCCW states that it adds +1A, but when you replace the missile launcher it says nothing about losing attacks. It only states that there is an effect if you are left with no DCCWs.
Other than that, I think the defilers need all the close combat weapons ever. You'll only ever shoot the battle cannon.

i run a list just like this except 4 squads of pms with melta and only 5 strong. i would keep the acs just because with 12 armor you will see 1 per game get immobilized. after that they are only good for shooting..... and after immobilization they are no longer a priority target.

I like the list, nice to see something different from the "internet norm". Though the only thing that I would change is the number of troop choices, 3 doesn't seem like enough at 2k.

I ran a list like this vs some Grey knights the other day and had a bunch of folks up in arms, saying that its Cheesy, beardy and OP, lol
My 2000 point list was
2 x lash prince
Greater Daemon
3x Dreadnought /w plasma cannon
3x Defilers /w Extra DCCW's
2x 5 CSM /w melta, naked champ and rhino /w combi melta
2x 10man CSM /w ML/plasma gun.(for holding objectives).
It pretty much smashed the Grey knights, leaving only 3 GK models on the table at the end, but still squeeking out a narrow loss due to Annihilation and the grey knights only fielding 5 kill points =x
I cant see anything chaos atm being overpowered and cheesy. the pieplates and plasma cannons work well with the lash princes, I find its a good all comers list, you can shoot rock armies, you can assault shooty armies but overpowered? pfft.
Automatically Appended Next Post: the downside of zilla so far seems to be that your ZILLA portion runs about 1150 points and uses up all your HQ, HS and elite slots. so your only left with troops to fill up the last 850 points of army. (FA slots being a lost cause)
its not a huge downside, as you can fit quite a few units of MSU plaguemarines into 850 points. but they don't fit the theme and offer your opponent squishy targets for all their anti infantry guns.
