Forest of Dean

Hey everyone, after almost a decade out of warhammer ive gotten back into it and this time i'm collecting Black Templars (like ive always wanted to) I'm quite happy with my conversion skills but my painting is a bit rough, so any critic and comments is most welcome.

Here is Mordred the avenger, my crusade's reclusiarch.

n.b I will redo the wings at some point as I'm :cuss at painting with metallic paints. and ive also noticed on these pics that his chest aquilla, crozius and storm bolter need touching up.

Here is what my emperors champion will eventually be made from...

Powermace i think the inspiration for this came from someone on here

Normal initiate - i intend for every initiate to have a tabbard

Half of my assault squad

Sword brethren - there's 1 more brethren somewhere.

Assault Termies - using GK metal termies with lightning claws and then brother stern i think with a thunder hammer

Standard bearer - not the most artistic I know, but i like the skull logo I printed onto clear sticker paper.

Dreadnought - an old AOBR dread that needs to be fitted with the black templars sarcophagus cover - but i painted it once with gold and i put it on too thick so i need to change that

My vindicator - finished this evening

I also have horse mounted on empire horses, but have seen them mounted on Chaos warriors horses that look a much better scale which i will sort at some point

Comments welcome folks. Hope you like them

The painting. To be real honest? Not very good.

One simple way is be more careful, I can see paint that are not meant to be there. When you tried to paint the eyes red, you accidentally got the helmet a little red.

The GOLD........ On that GK terminator, the gold is terriable, its too thick and again if only you made it neater, then it will look better.

The chaplain wings....... I think its better to get rid of them than keep them, the paint is too thick, its too big for the model and the colour is not very nice.

I am gonna stop critising your paint job, I think you know what to do. Some people are just not good at painting and you probably know that.

Onto the conversion, the capes are quite flat and thick, If you see a real cape, it will never be flat, it will bend and wrinkle. You can buy pre made capes on ebay just search them.

oh one last thing on your painting, thinner layers of wash! Or is that army painter dip? If so thinner dip or lighter dip.

Lastly, just spend more time on them and make them neater, it just lookes like you have not made any effort and did a quick 10 mins paint job on the model.

Thanks for the comments, yea i appreciate my painting skills are pretty terrible. ive only recently learned about thinning paints down with water, and to be fair i'm pretty heavy handed with the wash.

Ive also been told to paint the model then put it together which does make life somewhat easier.

My GS skills leave a lot to be desired and is something I would like to improve on, could you recommend any good Gs tutorials.

Also tutorials on metallic painting would be appreciated, I found they went a bit wierd when trying to thin them. I intend on stripping the wings down and starting again and going for a darker gold colour.

I don't know any Green stuff tutorials lol, I just normally buy pre made stuff.

For metalic gold. you use the GW paint range yes?

paint the wings "Dwarf Bronze", then dry brush "shining gold", Gryphonne Sepia wash (light), the very lightly dry brush "Burnished Gold"

Thats how I have done it. If then you want, dry brush very very lightly "Mithril Silver" over the wings.

I paint my models when its made so no big deal if you make it then paint or paint then assemble.

I nowadays rarely paint my models because I have 2 Golden demon finalist, One is close friend, the other is a friend in GW shop i go too. so they paint my models for a cheap price, basicly free considering how much those models sell.

For the black on your models, instead of plain black, try a very dark grey on the edge of the models

Ive decided to do an interior paint job for my predator, so ive stripped it apart and am starting painting it from the inside out. This time ive read a few tutorials and have used thinned down paints and layered them, washes and a little attempt of colour blending on the lights/control screens. C+C please
