I was watching Lord of the Ring's trilogy fairly recently and it reminded me of how much I admire Alan and Michael Perry's miniatures for the GW game, particularly the original Fellowship box set released in 2001. Anyway, I was inspired to begin hunting down the original miniatures on ebay. The current GW set doesn't use the original poses and furthermore as a Finecast product, it is substantially overpriced

I was pleased to find that the 2001 sculpts are still in plentiful supply and there are even a few unopened Fellowship boxes kicking around. I decided to go for individual miniatures, largely because I wanted to concentrate on one member of the Fellowship at a time (or two in the case of the hobbits), but also so I could be sure that the ones I bought weren't damaged or misculpted.

Merry and Pippin were my first purchase and I've completed the base coat on these two. Boromir arrived a couple of days ago, but I'm going to stick with my plan and not touch another miniature with a brush until the current paint job is complete.
