In several topics about mech spam somebody or another will mention that he believes vehicles are fine, the problem is infantry. They have no way to dig in, or really any special rules compared to vehicles. In real life infantry are good at defense, but in 40k vehicles make one better in defense. So rather than hope vehicles get nerfed, lets think up ideas and house rules to make infantry more interesting. I'll test out any ideas anyone comes up with.

Gone to Ground) Changed to allow the unit to shoot, but at -1 bs.
Entrenchment) A unit may give up a turn to dig in, afterwards it just like gone to ground but the unit may shoot at no penalty. Doesn't stack with the Imperial Guard order.

Heavy Forest) This type of area terrain reduces weapon range by 6 inches (to a minimum of 6) for units that are: completely or partly on the terrain, units firing at units completely or partly in the terrain. Heavy forests block all line of sight that passes over them, but only counts for line of sight for units that are completely outside of the terrain. This type of area terrain counts as dangerous to vehicles traveling above 6 inches. (clarifications: think of a heavy forest as being a solid object for all units except the ones partly or completely on the terrain. Does stack with Dark Eldar field)
Jungle) Same as heavy forest, but reduces range by 12 inches to a minimum of 6.
Marsh/Bog) Same as heavy forest but is also difficult terrain.

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.”

Yeah, this is in the wrong forum.

Anyways, just make it so that all small arms in the game have something akin to an underslung grenade launcher. Once per game, they can opt to fire it like a combi-weapon with stats of S7 AP6 Assault 1 18".

That way basic infantry weapons would be able to handle basic enemy infantry and their rides, rather than just the infantry.
