I did read the original thread. I thought that maybe with the new books, there might be some new theories. So with that....

I'm pretty new to 40k and have been reading and collecting a SW army. This quote intrigued me, a little google-fu and browsing led me to this ancient thread. If its been covered elsewhere please point me in the right direction. I have a couple thoughts on this.

1) I think it is possible that the original colonists of Fenris were somehow modified to survive a death world, hence the evolution into wolves. They are only found on Asaheim because it is the only stable land mass on Fenris. Why would you colonize any other part of Fenris??

2) There is an ancient temple to Chaos on Asaheim, it is discovered by Ragnar and his pack mates in the Omnibus. Perhaps this is why Russ forbid Fenrisian folk from settling Asaheim and claiming it as the exclusive domain of the Sky Warriors.

3) There are remnants of technology on Fenris outside of Asaheim, the island of the iron priests which is mentioned in the story and in the codex.

I think that the original colonists were modified to survive and that they were 'corrupted' by Chaos. Maybe that meant they turned to worshipping Chaos or maybe they evolved naturally....either way I think it is safe to imagine that Chaos had some part in the transformation. Its not unheard of in 40k fluff for the mere presence of Chaos to tamper with things. Like a residue. So maybe it sped the process of the original colonists turning into wolves. It could be that the eventual outcome of Wulfen is changing to Thunder Wolves or Blackmanes.

Either way it is clear that Space Wolves do not regard their wolf brethren as mere animals. In fact they regard them highly and even seek to include them in their community. Wolf Brothers. To me it doesn't matter what Magnus said. There are no wolves on Fenris. Only single minded bloody handed warriors that are never truly alive unless immersed in the fire of battle and conquest in the name of Russ and the All-Father. I think that the wolves are valued and seen for what they truly are, Intelligent cunning and capable in battle, an ally, regardless of their origin. They are judged on merit not any philosophical rambling.

There are no wolves on Fenris, Only warriors.

Just my two cents.

and then we moved it to the background section.

WE'll carry on in that one, no worries.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
