Bought the new How To Paint Citadel Miniatures book today. A really good book. Just a quick question about painting Cadian shock troops in their standard colours.

The guide for Cadian armour goes:

Basecoat: Castellan Green
Wash: Athonian shade
Layer: Loren forest
Layer: Straken green
Drybrush: Underhive ash

It doesn't really specify how the layers are meant to be used. I guessed at edge highlighting, starting with loren forest and then an even finer line of straken green right on the edge. Would that be right?
Plus, the drybrush is last on the list, are you meant to drybrush last? at the start of the book it says you should drybrush before you layer. But maybe I've misinterpreted it? Is there a need to drybrush at all in this case?

Also, does anyone know what paints from the new range would be used to get that khaki colour on the fatigues of Cadians? I assume it will be the usual basecoat, wash, 2 layers to highlight and a drybrush, but what colours? (Again, I'm not sure when the drybrush comes into it :p )

Thanks in advance, would really appreciate some help

In that book I tend to look at the 'drybrush' stage as an option.

If it were a flow chart it would look like this:

1.Base Castellan Green

2. Shade Athonian Camoshade

Do you want to Drybrush? If yes go to 3A, if no go to 3B.

3A. Drybrush Underhive Ash

3B. Layer Loren Forest

4B. Layer Straken Green

And you're bang on with edge highlighting.

I am currently taking commissions.

Sweet. Cheers for the help.

Any ideas on the fatigues? To look like this:

Sorry if this is totally off topic to the op but it is about drybrushing, the new guides have a lot of drybrushing stages e.g. khorne is supposed to be drybrushed with kindleflame at the end but, how would you drybrush armour, would you just hit the edges or the whole armour?

Edit: here is the fatigues in the new white dwarf:

basecoat- steel legion drab
wash- seraphim sepia
layer- tallarn sand
layer- karak stone

in that order, hope that helps
