Here's an AAR of the game that Chicago Skirmish Wargames put on at the Little Wars Convention.
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2012/05/atomic-highway-little-wars-battle.html

Also included are pics of all the forces involved as well as my thoughts about Little Wars and running a Sci-Fi game at an historical convention.

The game used a modified version of the free ruleset "Wastelands Meltdown":
http://s1.zetaboards.com/Post_Apoc_Wargames/topic/4759552/1/
We did away with the velocity mechanic (made the movement more like 40k) and simplifed the combat mechanics.
The 7 page attached PDF is 7 identical summaries of the scenario special rules, each with a different force list representing one of the players.

Some pics to pique your interest...

Glad you enjoyed it. I'd encourage you to give the wastelands rules a try. They're dead simple to play and you probably already have figs that would work for some of the factions in the book. It's a nice "beer and pretzels" option for when you don't want a full game of something else.

My favorites are 1/43 and 1/48 scale toys cars. They are a bit larger than 28mm, but since 28mm figs are usually quite Heroic (bulky) and based on slottas they size out quite well.
Water truck, police cruiser and Mad Max's Interceptor are in these scales.

I've also used a few 1/35 scale as well, but only for larger vehicles like vans, monster trucks and pickups.
The Minibus, Black and white off road monster/buggy, yellow and blue pickups are in these scales.

Stunning vehicles that match the terrain very well. I dig that Chronoscape Mad Max style figure too...I haven't had much luck buying one from my local shop (seems to always be out of stock).

Thanks!
My local FLGS doesn't do a great job keeping/getting/ordering Reaper. It might be better just to order directy from reaper as they have free shipping for orders over $25. I've only ordered from them once, but they were very fast in delivery.
