This is a little list that I knocked up in the wee hours. It uses the Vanilla SM Dex.
Artemis (Kantor) = 175.
Forge Master = 115.
Power Weapon.
10 Sternguard = 285.
2 Heavy Bolters, 5 Combi Melta.
Rhino = 35.

Rhino = 35.
10 Scouts Inc Cyrus (Telion) = 200
Sniper Rifles, Hellfire Heavy Bolter, Camo Cloaks.
5 Scouts = 85
Boltguns, Missile Launcher.
5 Scouts = 85
Boltguns, Missile Launcher.
Land Speeder Storm = 65
Multi Melta.
Land Speeder Storm = 65
Multi Melta.
Dreadnought = 125
2 Twin Linked Autocannon.
Dreadnought = 125
2 Twin Linked Autocannon.
2000.
Is there anything that drastically needs changing? My aim is to have a fluffy army that can also kick ass.

Drop the Heavy Bolters on the Sternguard, Heavy Bolters can't fire the specialized rounds so you loose the Sternguards biggest advantage. Otherwise, this list looks pretty darn scary.

I want to combat squad the Sternguard, effectively giving me a 5 man MEQ Fire Dragon Team and a squad with 2 HB.
I'm not really fussed about losing two special ammo guns, as 6 HB shots can mow down some infantry pretty well.

That's a pretty darn good idea actually, transport the squad without the HB, and use the HB squad as overwatch. With the mobility of the Sternguard, and the Scouts in their Land Speeders, that would totally work. I'm just glad you're on the other side of the pond, I wouldn't want to run up against this list at my FLGS!

I'm not sure if I have enough anti tank. Against APC I've got plenty, but against battle tanks, I'm not so sure.

Maybe try drop poding one of the units in? that way you can get your meltas nice and close. Then you can put two melta with the heavy bolters and three with the other and try and pop two vehicles out the gate.

Only problem with that tactic, is that the usually not so squishy centre comes out from under the wreckage and eats you. Usually Terminators. Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm proxying the army tonight to face Dark Eldar. I think it's Venom Spam, but I'm not sure. Might also be Necrons.

I really interested in how that game turns out for you - I like the overall look and feel of your army, and I'm curious to see how it works for you!

I'd love to see a battle report to see how this list does.

I got tabled in 3 turns by a Venom Spam list. XD. I lost all but 4 Scouts on turn 2, and everything else by the last roll of the dice on Turn three. I didn't like the Mech side of the army. I don't like Mech for that matter, but I thought I'd give it another go. Going to go for the only army that has no Mech elements, simply because, A) I have found myself liking the models, B) There are no Tyranid players locally and C) I think it might be a good challenge.

I believe you could make a decent Drop pod force out of this them, but there are some stuff that could change to help you out.
First, the storm and accompanying scout squad. Those should be aggressive, first turn alpha strike or later turns outflankers. Personnaly, I usually go with this configuration:
5 scouts, shotguns or CCW and pistol, sergeant with power fist and combi-melta
Land Speeder Storm, Heavy flamer.
Rush a transport, melta it down (works more often than I thought!) than flame the passenger and assault the survivors! Double team when facing harder targets (MEQ or large Ork mobs).
If you use Drop pod, your opponent will have to choose between shooting the content and leaving your long range support and vice versa. This should help you keep your units alive and do their job. Now looking at your list, I would probably change the heavy bolters in two of the Sternguards to heavy flamer (ditch the power weapon on the MoF in order to do that) - those will be your kill squad. If able use them to alpha strike and support them with your scouts. If not, keep one of those as a strategic reserve and castle up with the other two squads.
Your concept is nice, but it will be hard to break the current mech heavy armies. Success should be that much more sweet though!
