Here is a tutorial describing how I take photos of my models without any special gear. Hope someone finds it useful.

http://diyphotography.net/ use this site to in making a light tent.. It will make all your pics that much better. One thing you did not mention was white balance, set the cameras white balance to the same as the light source. So your colors come out true to life on the screen instead of having a tint.

That's a great site, I agree

But the whole idea for my tutorial was to put out decent photos with minimal investment. I often see people post photos that can be made so much better with very little investment.

As for color balance, you are right. All of my photos are taken in the same environment, and i set the color balance once and completely forgot about them, but it is definitely a very important step.

http://diyphotography.net/build-a-collapsible-diy-macro-studio-with-popup-laundry-bag - I think that is pretty cheap on a light tent, and perfect size for miniatures. I have shot professionally for 13 years and have a commercially available light tent that cost 100's of dollars. You don't need to spend the big dollars to achieve the same result or something really similar to what can be gotten for 20 times more.

I'm both selfish and rational. I'm scheming, secretive and manipulative; I use knowledge as a tool for personal gain, and in turn obtaining more knowledge. At best, I am mysterious and stealthy; at worst, I am distrustful and opportunistic.

Great stuff. I'm sure you can get some awesome photos with that setup. The whole idea behind this tutorial I wrote though is to make decent photos using _ONLY_ your camera, printed backdrop and one light source
