Subject: 2000pt SW Foot List

Concept
The idea of this list is to utilize only foot troops to limit the effect of enemy anti-tank firepower.
The army drops a total of 86 models on the table with 9 in terminator armor. A wolf guard with terminator armor goes into each grey hunter squad. A total of 3 CMLs will go into the grey hunter squads. 2 CMLs stay with the wolf guard pack. The remaining terminators go into the grey hunters and long fangs. The total layout is this.
- Wolf Guard Pack - CML terminator (9 models total)
- Wolf Guard Pack - CML terminator (9 models total)
- Grey Hunter Pack - CML terminator (11 models total)
- Grey Hunter Pack - CML terminator (11 models total)
- Grey Hunter Pack - CML terminator (11 models total)
- Grey Hunter Pack - PF/SB terminator (11 models total)
- Grey Hunter Pack - PF/SB terminator (11 models total)
- Long Fangs Pack - PS/SB terminator (6 models total)
- Long Fangs Pack - PS/SB terminator (6 models total)
Why 2 into the long fangs? They are twice as resilient vs autocannon than long fangs, and can absorb incoming ML shots. They also serve to detur people from assaulting the long fangs.
Strategy
The goal of this army is attrition and KP denial. The plan is to blob over objectives and move forward slowly. Its not a very aggressive army, and its main goal is to just be able to survive the waves of fire.
The army packs a decent amount of firepower with 20 ML shots per turn - 8 of which are very hard to stop. The grey hunter squads either carry dual plasma or MG/PG. The wolf guard are to help with counter-assault and provide combi-meltas to any deep strikers.

I like this list.
The only thing you might consider is to make all of your GH packs MG / PG. This would give you more uniformity in your AT capacity and at the same time reduce the number of "gets hot" saves you'll have to make. But it's really just a matter of taste.

I have done some tweaking to it. Instead of 3 squads of long fangs, I took 2 squads of long fangs, and took an extra wolf guard squad for an extra CML. I also dropped a combi-melta from each wolf guard pack, switched up to a MG/PG combo for the grey hunters.
This has the following effects
- Gives each Long Fang pack a PS wielding terminator to help if they get assaulted, and it can take incoming ML shots to help keep the missiles alive.
- Lowers the total ML shots per turn from 20 to 18, but makes them more resilient to incoming fire and means 2 more missiles can now move and shoot.
- 2 wolf guard packs now are at 9 men strong, including a CML and 2 combi-meltas. This makes them a significant threat.
- Terminator armor for the rune priest to give him an invlun save.
I think I like this more as it makes the wolf guard packs more threatening, and increases the durability of the long fangs. When fighting SW, I never really worried about long fangs due to the number of autocannon/scatter laser/ML shots I could toss at them. They would eventually fail enough saves and start dying. Having a 2+ save model in there helps to give them a bit more durability before taking hits on ML models.

I like the concept of this list and have been playing around with foot slogging wolves myself- however, you are really at a disadvantage as far as picking assaults and what you can target. Yes you have a ton of ML's but they don't hurt armor 14 and meltaguns are too short ranged to make much of a difference, by the time that LR or Battlewagon gets within 12 inches, you have been assaulted by 20 orks or a GK Paladin squad or something just as ugly. GH are decent in close combat, but at the end of the day, they only do 1-2 more wounds per squad than a normal assault squad. I might find a way of putting some cheap land speeders with MM in there- that way you can contest objectives late in the game or deep strike near vehicles with the MM. Either that or use a few drop pods with the WG squads with meltas to get "the drop on vehicles.

Those are excellent points. I'm leary of adding speeders into the army as this is also a KP denial list, but you have an excellent point of adding something to take down that LR at range. I will consider good options (like finding a way to give some LCs to long fangs). Dropping the combi-meltas in is very tempting, but I was hoping to avoid having any suicide squads that give up 2 KP.
I was doing the mathammer of 20 orks assaulting one of the grey hunter squads, and I'm not seeing it as being that scary. Let me explain.
The grey hunter squad has 10 grey hunters + 1 CML terminator with a PF. As they have a LD of 9, lets assume they pass their counter-assault. They should also pop their wolf standard at this point.
The GHs will swing 30 times, and hit 58% of them, on average 17.4 times.
The GHs will wound 58% of the time, for an average of 10.09 wounds.
On average 8.4 orks will be dead before they can swing back.
10 orks will swing back a total of 40 times. 50% of them will hit for 20 hits. 50% of those will wound for 10 wounds. ~3.3 GH will fall.
The wolf guard will swing 3 times, hitting 58% of the time and wounding 97.2% of the time for another 1.69 orks dead for a total of 11 orks dead.
The ork nob will then swing 4 times, hitting with 2 of them. This will result in another 1.66 GH head for a total of 4.9 marines.
The orks will have lost combat by 6. Since they are no longer fearless, they will test at LD 9, needing a 3 to pass.
Sure, things change if you add Ghazz or a warboss to the mix, but 20 boys + PK nob in a BW according to mathammer should not scare a GH + CML terminator squad. Sure, the GH squad will take some causalities, but the 20 boys will bounce hard more often than not.
