Hello

With the 6th ed looming and all the rumours and upcoming releases leaning heavily towards fliers I was wondering would the storm eagle be a useful addition to my army?

What's the tactical uses for this flier?

What's the best weapon load out?

And is it worth the points?

If so I'm thinking of buying a storm raven before gw up the prices and uses chapter house studios upgrade kit

Cheers

Dai

Fill it with Assault Terminators and shove it down your opponents throat is probably the way to go.

I'd say Extra Armour is nigh-mandatory, but for the it's role I'd probably avoid most weapon options except maybe giving it a Multi-melta for anti-vehicle PotMS shenanigans.

Without knowing the stat line, cost or foc slot, it's way to early to make guesses. We don't even know what 6th ed will do to the game. Best to hold off making a rash purchase...

Woah, are we talking about the Stormtalon or the Stormraven?

Because SM didn't get the Stormraven and the Stormtalon doesn't have any transport capacity.

The Stormtalon is a shootier landspeeder with some nifty abilities.

Its AV11 and has a TL-assault cannon and TL-HB. the HB can be swapped for a TL-lascannon for 5 pts less then a Power Fist. It can also be swapped for either a Typhoon Missile launcher or Skyhammer Missile launcher for the cost of a Power Fist. The Skyhammer is Range 60", Str7, AP4, heavy 3.

Melta Weapons don't get their extra dice when penetrating it either. It can move 12" and fire all its weapons, it can Flat Out up to 36", if it doesn't move it can make a special Hover Strike which gives it +1BS and all its weapons become Pinning, and finally it can be assigned to Escort a unit in reserves. You basically don't roll for reserves for the Stormtalon, it comes on when the unit it was Escorting was. Stormtalons cannot escort the same target nor can they escort each other.

Its naked cost is 5 Power Fists + 5 points and its a Fast Attack choice.

Can the assault cannons be swapped out for anything?

Nice to see that it can move 12" and fire everything. Gets around the defensive weapons restrictions.

Consider the thing to be a flying Land Raider, and you won't go too far wrong. Stuff it full of terminators and send it sailing over to terrorize something juicy.

As far as loadout, it comes with a bunch of S5 AP4 firepower by default, all of which is usable on the move up to 12" via POTMS. The Typhoon launcher is useful if you plan to add the wing-mounted lascannons, since it can be used defensively in frag mode, and the multi-melta is of course good for general tank-busting duties, especially when abusing POTMS to shoot up something else. I'd avoid the Hellstrikes, since that only gets you four hunter-killer missiles that you probably won't get to use effectively. Extra armour is also recommended, since a stunned Eagle is otherwise nothing more than dinner.
