So with the new rulebook coming out soon with 'ally options' i started to figure out non-IG models that i like to add (as allies).
My current plan is to have a SM HQ on a bike together with a bikesquad and escorted by a Stormtalon allied with my current WIP Desert themed Imperial Guard. Now the problem is that i have no clue what so ever on how to paint those future SM allies.
A basic reference on my IG-theme:

Any advice for a theme/chapter that is slightly different but still doesn't looks misplaced together with them? Due to my limited painting skills it would probably need to be something 'easy to paint' aswell

Could give them a desert camo scheme as well and make up your own chapter for it.

That's true... But then I would use the same few colors all over again (but on different models) and I'm already starting to get a bit bored with them, But it's a valid option in lack of other ideas.

Personally, the sandy yellow reminds me of the Imperial Fists. Go for some bright yellow and they'll stand out a bit without looking like they don't belong.

A friend told me that yellow is a pain in the behind to paint. But then again, it's not a whole lot of SM models i will paint. Thanks for the tip, will look into that.

For sure White Scars - a fast attack space marine force that helps out desert IG?

Screams White Scars to me - and will look really good.

I am currently taking commissions.

Also, crusader-themed SM. Although I am biased on that one, but crusader knights totally fit the desert theme. Black templars, Red templars, or make your own chapter (as I have!) based on the colors schemes of real Templars (mostly red on white/cream field) or the Hospitallers (yellow or red on royal blue field and like the SM Black Templars, white cross on black field).

A detachment of Mentors would be cool.

Atleast i'm probably sure that i'll use Dark Angel Ravenwing bikes (but as vanilla SM) since they look a lot nicer than the regular vanilla ones (thanks heartserenade for the templar/crusader tip).
But i'm still undecided on the colors... Maybe White Scar-ish? White body but a different trim?

Oh, it is. But before GW changed their paint line, the yellow base paints were pretty darn good. Put that over a coat of white or metallic primer and you'd be good to go.

Go for the White Scars! That would be very fluffy AND it would look together, as both armies would be bright-colored.

Another option is Imperial Fists, though they are more siege oriented.

Edit: also, yellow is not that hard, especially with the new Ceramite White base.

imperial guard are squishy! space marines are not! they dont need camo!
idk what planet or in what sector your IG come from. if you figure that out, you can go with an original chapter from that region of space

Neither do I, neither do I...
The IG-theme is just ripped right off a friends test-painting of GK. I thought that it looked decent (when I paint it) and it's quick and easy, so there is no fluff/lore behind it i'm afraid. But maybe i should be reading some in the codexes and see what i can find (if any), I still have a few weeks before i will be getting the SM models.

I would say make them stand out. I like the idea of white scars or black templars though.

I'm going to say White Scars as well especially as your going for bikes.

Tarentus is a desert world located in Ultima Segmentum in Ultramar. Its an agri world so they provide food for the imperium (?)
in this case ultramarines would be the obvious choice

Agreed, The colour contrast would be awesome. Fluff-wise it fits too.

Your IG have a very light/warm colour sceme to me, so something with a Dark/Warm Colour sceme would be a good choice. As they should stand out, but not feel out of place. Raven Gaurd, Black Templars, Flesh Terrors, and Dark Angels stand out to me as good choices.

I think a Dark/Deep Red would be a good choice, if you create your own chapter.
