So in a few test games since the new launch vs a bunch of terrible matchups and wierd list building in an afternoon with plenty of mis-interperted/mis-read/and plain didn't even know existed as well as proxies the likes of which has not graced a table since soda can Kan's were tried years ago it seems..
I've managed to try some 1500 combos: GK + IG shooty crowe purifier + melta vets lists (did very well)
only 1 hydra kind of sucks for air defence, the vendetta killed 2 skimmers then died so I feel like it's still pretty light for anti-air. 4 troops was nice and still plenty of vehicles. The russ did jack squat. Might just keep hydra as squadron and or replace some vets with plasma and missle launchers.
GK termies + IG shooty - went with a vet plasma gun varient that I like (LC + 3 plasma guns in chimera with HB - makes my opponent hate me for how many shots it has now at range). I think I'm still using the termies wrong as I tried to get in close to the enemy by deep strike but did poorly as i still died to volume of fire and at 1500, it was just too few bodies.
GK strikes squads + IG air force (main IG, gk as the allies) - was pretty fun. Had 1 storm raven flanked by 2 vendetta squadrons of 2 each. Ran out of points for enough troops so didn't do that well but damn does bs1 suck at shooting down planes lol. Opponent had very little sky fire so it was more frustrating for him than anything. Was vs a mech DE list so his stuff didn't live long.
GK + SW - (rune priest for the good "hood") - My opponent borrowed my IG for this game so I he brought the air force (with some proxy) and the hood didn't do anything sine he didn't have any psychic powers in his list as it was DE + IG. The missle launchers were quite effective. Due to costs, I tried to stick with a strike squad + interceptors + long fangs build, kept 1 AC dread (still good investment). Ended up draw as dice were all wierd. I killed the air force but his wyches ate my stike squad. grey huntes were good though, First time using them for me. I really want to try a lone wolf terminator now. Might be better than a solo pally. I can't quite decide. (pally slightly cheaper and has the holocaust shooting, but lone wolf is sturdier but more costly given the upgrades, LC+storm shield + EW + FnP by himself is pretty damn annoying)
Really fun so far but 1500 really limits your choices. After the requirements it's really hard to get too much variety.
Just wanted to share what I've tried so far and it's given me alot of ideas to try.
I want to do a firebase / castle formation in the future with techmarine + vindicare + Long fang fortress.
Same with IG and maybe ratlings?
Things I really wished was different was if psyker battle squads from IG counted differently then I'd totally do some sort of super culuxus assasin build but alas it doesn't work.
Also, I'm very interested in a GK + sisters build but I don't know jack squat about sisters. Mainly for fluff reasons but I was hoping for a decently competitive build. Anyone got any ideas? Maybe seraphim thing? (I feel interceptors are probably stronger). Pentitant engine + dreadknight build? (lack anti-air) repentia build? I can see potential synergy with the little that I know about the sisters.
Addendem = friend of mine is already half way done with his necron air force and I think based on what we've tested so far is going to be a huge problem for me to fight with any of the varients I have above. I'm essentially outgunned pretty badly by a mono-necron list but I really don't see too many good sky fire GK options. Maybe it'll change more at higher points levels? MSS + gauss + superior air power seems unbeatable at this time but I'll reserve judgement till he gets it on the table and we learn the rules better. Also wraith spam is still pretty strong, we haven't messed with the jump infantry powers too much (my interceptors became a high priority target so they all died in the game I had with them before I did anything lol) but I see nothing but necron domination in the near future
