Trying my hand with a vindicator i had laying around unpainted. White is such a b*tch to paint!! I undercoated with yellow foundation, but still taking more coats then I thought it would. Again, any advice and pointers would be great!!

I'd paint (foundation) light gray of some sort over the white then reapply the white to get a more solid white color (that's a lot of white). Then put some painters tape over the white lines, where you can, and paint on some black to cover over any excess white for a nice hard crisp white line. -Edit- I've tired painting white over black, bad idea. Needs a lighter color under it, such as a lighter gray.

Tamiya tape (found at local hobby store, not GW or craft store) is the best but some good/not dirt cheap painters masking tape from a hardware store should do as well.

Somewhat same with the yellow, touch up any spots the black is showing through then reapply black to cover over any areas you don't want the yellow to be.

Another way to bring out more detail is to highlight all the hard edges that are black with the same black paint mixed with some white or a metallic color. I don't do this much myself so perhaps someone else can offer more advice.

Overall I like the color scheme but practice is still needed.

2 biggest tips I'd give would be -

1) Use a dark grey to highlight black instead of white. Looks a lot beter IMO!

2) Paint the tops of the ladder on the side door! It looks like you forgot they were there, because they have both black and yellow paint on them.

Other than that, practice makes perfect, keep at it!

I use a medium to light gray myself, apply then paint over with white.

For the white I used a foundation coat of Yellow, and the painted white over the yellow. Still seems to need alot of coats for white. The hard lines are fortress grey right now (not white). The door with the ladder on it is yellow again, going to be a white door and will go back and touch the steps up with some black. I just think painting white for me is so dam difficult.

The model looks nice so far. In my experience with white you have to layer up to the white tint your looking for. I would not recommend simply painting anything pure white. Rather than doin that, start with a softer mix -- I like to start my foundation for white with a 1:1 mix of codex grey and skull white, then I add more skull white until it looks bright enough. Once im finished, I highlight with pure skull white....these highlights should stand out and look great. Never paint pure white as your basecoat though, because you will leave yourself no color gradient to work with. Good luck!

--oh you also going to notice that you dont need nearly the amount of coats when you add grey to the mix....which is nice because you want to keep your layers thin.
