Well I'm starting a new Space Sharks army but i need some help finding the right color scheme.The first one is a great deal different than the current space shark color, i modeled it after the colors of the SJ Sharks my home team. i like how it looks but already I can see I'm going to have a hard time doing this paint job. The second example is more like the original paint scheme with a few twists to make it more original. So which one do you guys think i should go for and do you suggest any changes to the current schemes I'm open to all suggestions!

I like your concept, but too much orange for my liking.

Agreed, orange is rarely a colour for marines. The home kit seems more natural. However, the grey red gold is much more interesting to look at.

I agree that it has too much orange I've updated the scheme a bit to match the actual uniform a bit more.

I think the orange clashes too much. I would find some other color for those bits. Perhaps a blue or something.

To clarify, though, I do like the teal/black scheme better than the other. I feel like the grey one looks too much like some extremely generic Marine chapter, easily mistaken for others.

Thank you for the suggestion but the i feel the orange is necessary if i want to capture the feel of the sharks uniform but i might consider changing it.

Is the orange only on the hockey stick in its mouth?
Perhaps keep it small, like just the eye glow?

I'ts hard to see in the image I had but the uniform has orange strips around it let me get a better picture

Obvious way around that then is to either start with a red base and highlight up to orange (leaving a lot of red shining through) or base orange and highlight up to yellow.

I like it better, but still the orange is off putting.

how about running a small white stripe between the areas you have in orange? it'll give it that jersey look and keep with your theme. all in all I like it.

Would you mind terribly if I made one and sent you some pics? I just like to paint, and I'm a GK player so I won't steal your colors.

heck maybe we can meet up and go over ideas!

I voted for the Teal combo, the other looks way too much like Space Wolves.

I think both look pretty bad IMO. Not trying to knock you but I would keep looking. Maybe a hockey jersey isnt the best thing to get your color scheme from.

Always loved the old space sharks, personally I like the old color scheme but the teal one is really cool

I think the old grey scheme on the armour with real inner shoulder pads and the orange stripe on the head would look pretty sweet!

Eh I think the grey scheme will look to much like the grey unpainted plastic.

The teal/black/orange scheme is good, but I think the teal needs to be darkened or add a little bit more blue into the blue/green mix.

That white stripe in the orange is really cool, but that will be a really fine line, not impossible, but difficult. good luck trying to paint that.

The colors are good and they work well together (i guess they should...after all you are modeling them after a sports franchise ), but I would definitely urge you to reconsider a more simplistic color scheme. Your going to begin painting your marines and about 3-4 in your suddenly going to have an epihany that it is just too much work.

Here's a thought, since home and away jerseys are EITHER white or black....why not decide which primary color to go with....pick one or the other, but not both. Once you have your primary color, then its going to be easier for you to place the teal and the orange accent in the right places. If I was painting this scheme, I would go with a black and teal, and paint the orange only around the wrists and the shoulder trim.....maybe make my sgt pop with an orange knee pad.....

thats how I like to paint though. Even if I model a color scheme after my favorite team (and yes ive done it before...GO SEAHAWKS!) I make it aloof enough so that it isnt an obvious replication....i mean im not painting blood bowl characters, so i like it to be subtle. But thats my style.

I do not ever play at a GW. I used to work there, so I will not return there.

I can arrange for a pickup game at Game Kastle though. friendly people and good terrain without the pressure of sales.

I will try and see what I can slap together marine wise. got more than a few projects on my plate, but thats simple and I could knock that our in an hour or so.

I'd use the Alternative color scheme. Unless you try really hard to get the quality of the Ultramarines or TS cohesive design, that orange is going always be a bit of an eyesore.
