All right, so you have a bastion with your big old quad gun on top. A space marine drop pod descends from the skies, your alert trooper fires off heavy rounds into the drop pod as it makes it's entrance and it bursts into a pillar of flame, destroying all inside right? I can only wish, but we will see.
So the intercept ability hits a unit that is coming in from reserve, deep strike, outflank right? You get your shots, manage to penetrate and blow up said drop pod. Intercept says at the end of the enemy movement phase... It would make sense to me that an anti air attack gun would be hitting before the drop pod hit the ground, but if the marines are already out of the drop pod at the end of the movement phase, can I target them instead of the drop pod?
What do you guys think?

As the Interceptor rules state you may target any one unit that arrived from reserve.
The guys in the drop pod arrived from reserve.

Intercepter fires well after the unit has disembarked. You can choose to shoot the unit that was in the drop pod or the drop pod itself as both came in from reserve. But no shooting it while the unit is embarked.
Same goes for Mycetic spores.

You can target the drop pod, or the guys who got out. But not both. The shooting happens after the pod has landed and everyone has made a normal disembarkation move.

The Interceptor is good enough as it is, no need to fish for Easter eggs. It fires once the pod is down and troops outside. "End of the enemy movement phase" (BRB pg 38) kind of covers it.

Yep. Makes sense to me BRB wise. Fluff wise I imagine it would be much more intercepting on the way down. Ah well. Thanks for the swift replies. Follow up question. Is a quad gun part of the bastion it is attached to, or is it a purchased artillery piece that can be targeted separately from the bastion?

No it is not part of the bastion. It is a Gun Emplacement and not an Emplaced Weapon. It can be targeted on its own and destroied.
As a side note, you can place it where ever you want on the table. It dosen't have any requirement to actully be on the bastion.

No, it has to go with the Fortification. "Weapons. If your fortification has weapons as part of its basic composition, they will be listed here. Note that many fortifications can purchase extra weapons at additional cost." P.114 "Options. This section lists any additional weapons, wargear or upgrades the fortification can have" P.114 Weapons are a part of the composition of the fortification so they must be attached to the Fortification. It also says the options are "upgrades the fortification can have" so putting it somewhere else is not the fortifications upgrade.

Wait, if the weapon is a part of the fortifications composition, then how can it be targeted separately? If it is not separate from the bastion itself it should be a part of it's make up.

Gun Emplacements have their own profile, and thus can be targeted separately.

Necrons: 2200 Points
Orks: 3000 Points
Space Marines: 165 Points

More to the point for my experience, I've read recently that you can choose to have some doors up, and some down on a drop pod upon landing at your discretion.. does this mean I could disembark my squads behind the pod with the doors blocking LOS to the interceptor weapon?

AHHHHH! UNDEAD THREAD, UNDEAD THREAD! Ruuuuuuun. No, seriously, if I am reading this time stamp right you just replied to a thread that was over a year old! Please do not do that, it is not polite to be bringing old and berried threads back just to ask a follow up question. We are far more then willing to answer the question on it's own merit, even if it is one we have seen before, so please do create a new thread to ask. The only good thing that comes from posting to a dead thread is it gets locked.

Well given the horrible search function we have, people use google. It sometimes makes undead rise to the top.
