[user]A friend of mine asked if i could make some Flying bases for his metal Stormboy models to make them look more up to date.

Having looked on the internet i decided the best effect for smoke were the ones made from Clump Foliage

Due to the amount of stormboys i'd be making bases for i decided to make some master models and cast them in resin.

So, without further ado, please find below pictures of my stormboy flying bases and a link to them on my ebay page

(C&C's welcome)

That's pretty cool! I love the flames and smoke. Really nicely done.

My only criticism would be the legs. And I only say it because I've encountered the same problem when converting Orks and Orcs, they don't look terribly dynamic and more like an Ork waddling across the ground. Since you clearly put a lot of effort into the models I think it's worth the extra money to actually use something like the current GW stormboyz which are much more "dynamically" posed than a regular boy.

I totally agree with you but whole point of making these bases was to make the old style metal orks look more dynamic because he didn't have any of the new GW models!

So mount them on these bases, chop the legs at the knees, put some wire in the joint and blend with a bit of putty. Problem solved, more dynamic and no new models needed.

You say that I am crazy. I say that you are right!

Yeah, reposing those Ork legs is a time consuming proposition, but it might be worth doing. You pretty much have to cut every joint to get it to look right then fill the gaps with greenstuff. I did it to make boar boyz back before GW released plastic ones and the only saving grace was because they were mounted on boars, I could make them ugly between the legs instead of trying to perfectly sculpt them.

These days I have a time vs money scale, if it takes me x amount of time per model then I'd sooner just buy models that are better suited even if it costs me y dollars more. I think when it comes to repositioning those Ork legs, I'd just buy the new Stormboyz instead.

Or just put them on my snazzy bases so peeps aren't looking at the legs!

thought about it, but the dual exhaust ports adds difficulty when casting.

Blood angel Flying bases on the other hand would be alot easier (watch this space!)

They look great, from casting to painting to presentation. If I had any Stormboys, I'd be tempted to buy some, even with transatlantic shipping.

Ok, so someone mentioned that they may be interested that Space marine Flying Bases would be desirable.

As mentioed though the standard mk VI jump pack would be difficult to cast but I have managed to cast some Mk IV Blood Angel Jump Ppack Flying Bases.

Unlike the Stormboy bases these have been moulded to fit the exhaust port of the Mr IV Jump Pack

So C&C's welcome on the following bases.

The question is: Do you plan to sell these or mass produce them?
