Hey All, Since my friends and I started dreaming up pod armys we figured it would be fitting to at least take a pass at a Space Wolf List.

HQ:

(1x) Rune Priest. (200pts)
master of runes, JoWW, Murderous Huricane, Chooser of the Slain, Melta Bombs, Runic Armor, Wolf Tail Talisman, Wolf Tooth Necklace

(1x) Rune Priest (193pts)
master of the runes, JOWW, Storm Caller, Chooser of the Slain, Storm Bolter, Melta Bombs, Runic Armor, Wolf Tail Talisman,

Troops:

(2x) 9 Man Grey Hunter Squads (215pts each)
Meltagun, Plasma Pistol, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard, Drop Pod
designed to drop with rune priests

(5x) 10 Man Grey Hunter Squads (235pts each)
Plasmagun, Plasma pistol, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard, Drop Pod

The Idea behind the Army: Screaming Grey Power armored Death from the skies, or the proverbial "Grey Tide". The whole army is composed of troops in Drop Pods (68 scoring bodies total). Unless you're going up against another Pod Army you're opponent will be forced to concede first turn unless he wants to loose a round of shooting, as you won't forfeit until the end of the game turn (both player turns combined) for not having models on the board. Due to the 7 pods, you will be slamming 40 power armored vikings into his face on turn one. The flexibility of deployment from the drop pods should maximize the use of your JOWW power, and you can then dump the secondary powers for cover on your guys and to hamper the mobility of your opponents' response. The Chooser's can be deployed to deny outflanking units from swooping in behind your drop podded units. They can also be used too protect any objectives placed on your side of the board, again to deny easy outflanking and make you're opponent slog across the board to them.

The rune priest squads should have a decent shot at taking down slow moving targets like monstrous creatures or big tanks with JoWW, or can be used to snipe at nasty characters / thin out units. The melta/plasma pistol shots should help on this as you have a good chance of getting side or rear armor due to the drop pod deployment.

The two other Grey Hunter Squads will be packing 5 plasma shots each, not to mention a ton of bolter power, and are an extremely intimidating prospect for an enemy assault due to the counter attack rule, the fact that most of the squad will get base 2 attacks, The posibility of popping the wolf banner, and the embedded wulfen menace that can't be targeted by challenge.

On the second round, odds are you're getting two more pods, which packs an additional 20 power armored vikings, and 5 additional plasma shots per squad.

The last pod will most likely drop on the 3rd and can be used to snatch an objective, deny rally to fleeing troops, or to just lower the hammer even harder on a bartered enemy Strong-point / objective.

Even without the blessing of the dice gods, odds are you'll have 70 power armored space vikings, tons of plasma, and a smattering of wolf possessed psychopaths in your opponents' face by turn 3.

The Drawbacks: Note that this army has absolutely no anti-air defense save for the rune priests psychic powers. You must generate maximum carnage on the first turn to break the enemy, and mop him up on the second before the flyers arrive. If all goes well he wont have much in the way of threats remaining on the board and you can focus fire on any flyers to generate enough of those 6's you'll need from your horde of guys to down them. If all else fails, table his ground units, spread out, and weather the areal storm. You should have more than enough scoring bodies to hold your own in that kind of attrition war if you go to ground in cover.

I know its not a competitive list but it should be cheap to buy in terms of models and extremely forgiving due to the redundancy and simple focus. A quick ebay check showed I could buy this whole army for about 400 dollars, new on the sprue. I can get them much cheaper if I'm game for buying used models.

I think this would be a ton of fun, and would be very fluff friendly (I mean, are not drop pods just supersonic long ships for the future?) .

What do you guys think?

I would nt take master of the rune for 50 p each is to much

"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ

I agree, they're expensive, but I can't think of anything much more useful to get at 100 points besides an ADL with Quad Gun, but since the whole army is drop podding any units sitting behind it would be sitting ducks for first round firing. The other reason is that it allows the rune priests the chance to use two psychic powers, or to at least charge up their runic weapons if they receive a counter assault. Any other ideas on how to spend that 100pts?
