Hi Hi!

I am an Utter Noob to Lord of the Rings, but here is a list that I made, using the models that I have:

Hero:
Gil-Galad With shield - 145pts

Warriors:
8 High Elf Warriors with Elven Blades - 80pts
4 High Elf Warriors with Elven Bows - 44pts

Total - 264pts

Your thoughts?
I would really like to know:
-have I got the points right (my sourcebook is on order, but I had a look at a copy in GW)
-What should get next (I also have Elrond and 4 High Elves with bows and 8 Numenoreans with sword and shields)

I like all things Elven and also I love Ents.

I am getting some Galadhrim (hopefully), but I don't know who's best to lead them ...

Wood Elves have also recently taken My Fancy, but they are about as durable as Sugar paper

I have figured the Twins are good, and Gil-Galad Also, but who to lead Warbands after that?
Are Captains Good? I like them.

All in all, I don't have a clue, but I'm just trusting my instincts (though why, I don't have a clue)

Heeeeelp

The mind of the Farseer is utterly inhuman in its depth and complexity. Without mercy or moral feeling, his consciousness stands upon the edge of spiritual destruction. That he does not fall must be a result of constraints and balances that only an Eldar could understand. To a mere Human it is yet another reminder that we are but children in comparison to that ancient and powerful race.

Your list building depends heavily on the purpse. If you are building a list to play some friendly games, no pressure situations and just want to hang out and toss dice, then I think you are fine. Elves are SUPER expensive and while their heors are awesome, they are even more expensive.

If you intent however if to play more in a tournament setting, at defined list sizes(UK is generally 700 for a GT for instance) then I would really suggest using generic captains. They are still great units and for the price of Gil, you can have nearly 3 heros. With the added points, you can easily fill out additional warbands, and then to fill use maybe a special hero for that.

Galadrim knights are really good. Their ability to charge through woods is nearly game breaking, so getting those and ally them in for a much needed mounted contingent for any tournament game.

i am doing an elf army and this guy knows what hes talking about.

i agree with him as you need more numbers in your army as elves are good fighters but you will need to be careful in what combats you make as you will lose if your fighting a horde of Orcs for example.

elves love bows, there relay good i managed to snipe a troll in 1 turn of shooting the other day it was funny!!! the archers you got are better than mine i got def 4 and you got def 5 as you got heavy Armour. take your army up to your bow limit as i was told by the other guy who posted.

if you want to make a hybrid force with high elves , glad and wood elves it could be a nice mix,

with glad cavalry im not sure becouse when i use them they cant do enough damage for what i payed and you need alot to do enough damage.

if all three of us work together we can make a good list for us both.

i like Haldir he is a good model not bad in combat and shooting, but dont use the helms deep stat line personally id take the exrta shot.

also Elvin blades suck.better off with shield and spear and shield. makes you a bit tougher and more killy.

or Rumil he is really good in combat evil cant roll natural 6s on you and your the 2nd toughest model.
i don't have him but i will when i play tested him he worked well for me

One great combination is Galadriel with the well. Using her well to support Celeborn in full battle gear or Gil-Galad will make you cry, cuz you will feel bad for your enemy. I once had a list before they came out with these new books that consisted of Treebeard being supported by the well. (He NEVER died in that army, I did feel a little guilty)

If you want ents as allies you need to take a hero from the wanderers in the wild list eg ghan buri ghan 45 pts, plus an ent for 120 pts, 165 pts is a pretty big investment for 2 models so it's often worth maxing the warband with woses warriors as they have poisoned blowpipes and are also the antidote to orcs goblins and uruk-hai as they get +1 to wound them. They're low defence so it is often good to use thier spears to support another warband and you don't need to worry about enemy shooting as they count as wearing elven cloaks, for 7 points a piece they 're a good support unit. From my experience ents can take on pretty much anything in combat with Fight 7 3 attacks and strength 8. Heck I've seen them make dragons run away, however you have to watch out for enemy warmachines eg dwarf ballista's.

For Galadhrim/Wood Elves I'd suggest Galadriel, doesn't matter how fragile you are if you can't be hit in shooting. Thranduil can upgrade wood elves to hit with bows on a 2+, which means you can really chip away at the enemy

Just an update on what I now have (I love eBay ):

Heroes-
Gil-Galad
Elrond (Last Alliance)
Treebeard
Galadriel? - might buy

Warriors-
24 Galadhrim (8 Elven bows, 6 spear and shield, 2 spear, 8 Elven Blades)
44 High Elves (23 Elven Blades, 21 Elven Bows)

I won't be buying much in the near future, but is there anything I could save towards? (I am fresh out of money for this kind of thing at the moment)

Many Thanks,
