So I just came up with this idea, about collecting an IG cannon-fodder ally list for my Space Wolves. Also as I hate having to decide the regiment(faced same problem with Space Wolves
Great Companies), I thought about creating my own. This would most likely be called something like The Finland's 1st (like all regiments are called after their planets). They would feature the Finnish flag in their vehicles
(which I'm planning to do with my wolves too) and possibly somewhere else(not sure about where I could stick them anywhere else).

As I'm quite low on the budget for 40k this year, mainly because of me starting High School and having to save for books etc. (Also a new computer screen) I'll take my time to find cheap IG models.

Back on topic, I'd like some suggestions and fresh ideas on this theme. These ideas will develop until (and after) I get some models (one infantry squad would give me the basic idea).
So, Dakka, what do you think?

do they need to be proper GW models? cause if not try and find maybe WWII russian models to give them a cold weather look? or go with Vallhallans?

YES! And Marshal Mannerheim perhaps as a Lord Commissar?
Although I don't think I can get my hands on those other models (from other games (at least not yet)

Hmmm, tricky. If you're going for old-style Finnish soldiers (like the Finland-Russia Winter War) then you could go for Valhallans/Russian WW2 heads but they may end up just looking like what they are; Russians or Valhallans.

I'm currently in the planning stages of doing my own Wehrmacht IG army, based on a Schweres Panzer Abteilung/Panzergrenadier kompanie using the Cadians (*yawn* I know) and lots of fettling. Either way, I wish you luck and look forward to seeing how you do them!

Actually, in many pictures they do not have much helmets at all.
And yes, I'm thinking about a Talvisota-style Finnish army.

We'll see if I can get some IG models in a month or two...

I like the idea of finnish themed IG army and the idea for Marbo as Simo Häyhä is plain awesome.
Also if your army is going to include leman russ, i'd suggest to you to buy T-34 or any other tank that Finns used in winter war or in the continuation war.

Great idea mate! I've been thinking about a certain model for Mannerheim: With a different head of course. (He will not be black, if you know what I mean).

the reason why i suggested the Pig iron heads is they could easily pass as Valhallan heads, maybe you do this using Cadians as a basis and then adding great coats with greenstuff if you want to go cheap :p

tbh i keep hoping fw will do some valhallan bits, ffs they even have Tallarn Guard models and I know more people who play bloody Preatorians :/

BTW i love this whole idea and I look forward to the outcome. it actually reminds me of an old Black library diorama

I didn't really like that Valhallan commander though...

well dw about it I don't like the model myself either (it sabout 18 years old iirc) :p, but either way there they are and no worries, i like the idea i started looking up stuff myself.

The problem I see with the Valhallans is, that being collector's models, they are quite expensive(30€ for 10 guardsmen seem a little much), but we'll see what I can find

Alright got my first IG model build up. It's an ordinary IG heavy weapon team (autocannon) I'll possibly post pics tomorrow and think about the color scheme.

Alright I got lazy. I tried to make this color scheme in DOW II: Retribution, bu even though it looks good in the game it's not the same IRL. Regardless I'll post pics of what I achieved. I have problem though, I don't know for sure what colors Finns wore in WWII, as all pics I've seen/found are in black and white...
