I will show you my wip and a few small tips along the way,.

i used some thick cut cork board, broke into small and large pieces and formed them around the flight stem. The glue held the cork to the plastic quickly and easily, when gluing the cork to another piece it took a few hrs.

Then i useds a fair amount of the Citadel Texture: Astrogranite . Putting a lot of the texture on the brush and applying the most of it on the outer facing part of the cork board, and putting smaller amounts of the texture on the top to give it a rougher feel and a more realistic look.

Then I dry brushed :Terminatus Stone on edges of the outer facing and broken areas on the top. after letting it dry i then added Nuln Oil wash/shade. this tones down the lighter Terminatus Stone around the edges and make the overall formation have some highlights to it. I will update this post as the base comes more complete.
