Alright this was an idea I had for taking to a local 2k, single force org (1999+1) tournament at my FLGS. Figured I'd give the whole SITNW Conscripts idea a shot. Basic Idea is to completely eliminate any high threat targets with a massive alpha strike, and then charge ~80 guardsmen and the executioners up the field to mop up.

So, a couple of questions.

1. Melta guns won't get used often, and my store has a lot of MC's, so I was thinking of swapping all the meltaguns for krak grenades on the infantry squads. That, or trading in the masters of ordnance for them. Every time I play it seems like the other guy is charging a big gribbly into my guardsmen to save it from shooting. Has anyone tried using krak grenades to discourage MC's from charging their guardsmen? Chenkov will be able to give them LD 8 stubborn, and I can get a reroll from regimental standards, so I can make them stay in combat fairly easily if I want to.

2. Kind of iffy on the Masters of Ordnance. I've had them pull off amazing things, and other times whiff all game. They're only 60pts for a couple of BS 4 basilisks, but the always scatter bit really hurts them. If I drop them, what would be good things to add besides more lascannons? Upgrading the other CCS back to a lascannon would give me 55pts to play with, which I guess I could put towards a quad gun or an icarus lascannon, which wouldn't hurt...

3. Really would like to get a 3rd Executioner in, but just can't find the points. Not really sure what to drop as I really like everything in the list as is. Do I really need a 3rd one when the first 2 can just hide behind the Aegis for a +4 save?

1.) that's a zany idea, but if you're sure MCs are in your future, then it's not the worst one. I think I'd rather find points to upgrade the meltaguns to plasma guns, or keep the meltas and just add krak grenades straight away.

2.) I like them, especially with BiD! against vehicles. If you're not going to face off against a lot of vehicles, then this is probably the first thing you should cut.

3.) I don't get your HS choices at all. Only two russes in a 2,000 point list otherwise devoid of vehicles sounds like 400+ points of dead russes in a short period of time. That's a lot of points risked on a small footprint.

If you're really wanting S7, then exterminators or, better yet, hydras do the job much, much cheaper. If you're looking for more AP2 (because all those lascannons aren't enough?) then I'd go for regular plasma guns over these super expensive plasma cannons. If Ap3 is good enough, then I'd recommend stormtroopers, especially since they're going to do the one thing the rest of your army is really going to struggle with - get upfield.

That or perhaps harker with some plasma vets at least. Something that scores or at least gives you linebreaker. Plus, with your current gunline setup, you're basically telling your opponent "do whatever you want with the 3/4 of the board that isn't my deployment zone", which is a lot of initiative to give away before the game even begins.

In the very least, you could swap two ultracutioners and a pair of MoO's for some artillery pieces or something, so that your armored presence is a bit more robust, numberswise. Having just the two of them sticks out like a sore thumb.

unless there was an FAQ i believe the hydras just have the skyfire rule which means they can only shoot at air units and anything else they count as bs1. With all the lascannons supporting the russes I believe the 2 executioners would just shredd anythhing else that gets close. if you wanted more armor just use vanilla russes as you could use more large templates.

Chance the executioners to possibly 2 manticores, a basilisk and use the 5 points left over on the CCS LC? You'll have enough stuff to bubble wrap them if you can get them behind LoS.
