Hey folks. Thought I'd share my first 4 troopers. Still a few bits to do on el'capitano, but he's just about done too. It's taken me a long time to get them to this standard, which is depressing, cos they aren't that good! Still, considering it's the first squad I've done in nigh on 20 years, I'm philosophical about it - I guess it'll take a few more squads to get my hand back in. My highlighting is gradually getting smoother, and the next batch will be undercoated with spray, so should get a thinner finish. On the plus side, I'm pretty happy with the colour scheme, and I'm also pretty pleased with the way the bases have turned out.

Next job (once sarge is complete) is to complete the other half of the tac squad, including a vintage Heavy Bolter, and a squad standard (just a small, backpack mounted standard - I want each of my squads to carry a small standard, in place of individual squad markings). I also have the first Dreadnaught well underway. Think I'll treat myself to doing another termie first though.

All C&C welcome as always - I've had a lot of good advice so far, which I've taken on board, and am trying to put into practice.
Ps, I WILL be drilling the barrels, next time I'm in the hardware store, I need to pick up some teeny drill bits...

Cool! Paint looks a bit thick in some places but that might be because of the close-up pictures. Nice colour scheme

I agree the paint is a bit thick in places. I've started using a wet palette, and am awaiting the arrival of spray undercoat in an effort to get the next lot crisper. Glad you like em!

I felt bad insinuating the squad was done in the thread title, when the sarge was missing, so I went and finished him too.

I wanted a bright red for the helmet without it turning orangey. Think it came out ok, though it's too thick due to my experimenting.

And the Emperor's purple pooshflips together:

It's a nice feeling to finish a bunch, even if it is a tiny squad that took me forever. Onwards and upwards!

Really nice stuff. The purple / bone / gold combo is always really classy, and you've executed it nicely.

Love it when people deploy marines with an unusual color. If i ran any of the marines i would be doing purple as well just because its a royal-looking color and is so rare.

Just because the rulebooks show Space Marines in blue and Chaos Marines in red doesnt mean they have to be those colors good paintjobs man

Keep in mind most models don't hold up 100% to the unforgiving scrutiny of a macro shot. I bet these look fine if not eye-catching from the distanc most people will be seeing them which is 3-4 feet away across the tabletop.

I like the bases as well. Good stuff.

Thanks for the kind comments folks! I'm pleased to say the second batch are looking nicer to my eyes already! Hopefully have them done by the end of the week. Still have a few thick-paint issues on em, because they were recycled and a couple from eBay were clarted in some wierd paint that wouldn't even strip with nail varnish remover! After that its onto fresh, unpainted models with my new spray undercoat, so hopefully that'll help move my brush-fu up a notch.

Nice job. Love how your white and metalics offset against the purple.

Looks pretty good to me. I really like the purple. and the whole scheme turned out well. Were you going for Soul Drinkers? Or a sub branch of them maybe?

Nah. I used to do my marines worm purple back in the day. When I started up after a 20 year break, I wanted my new chapter to nod towards the old stuff. I've got a bit of fluff for them in my blog.

Appreciate the comments folks. I'm pleased to say the next batch of five are shaping up a bit better!
