Absolutely, the creation of a welfare dependent underclass is highly detrimental and work should be undertaken to break it, especially with the generational, career welfare families who live and reproduce without contribution.

I remain strongly in favor of all citizens on state benefits, with perhaps exception for the most incapacitated, working for the state and the benefit of the nation for their money. If you take from society, you should also contribute.

I absolutely believe in the welfare state existing to protect and enable those in society who need it, and I absolutely believe in those who use it earning their benefit.

There have always been people who wanted to avoid work. It's a survival strategy that predates the welfare state. See cuckoos.
