Hi all!
I am new to the game as you can see from the title, today I painted my first miniature and I would like to show it to you guys. Could you give me any hints or tips if you don't like aspects of the figure? I am collecting chaos and bought dark vengeance, I wasn't sure what way to paint the chaos cultist as I don't believe it has a set colour scheme?
Thanks!

The whole idea of cultists is a kind of dregs of humanity types,
so a motly asortment of colours and weapons is idea
the painting is good from what i can see, better than my first mini,
would like to see your work in a year or two's time

Thanks for the reply, when you say thin the metal paints, you mean dilute with some water right? I tried making my own wash by mixing a small bit of imperial primer with tap water and well... it didn't do much. Cheers for the advice

That's one handsome fether. Maybe cover the base better with whatever it is you are using (what is it?) And perhaps use a matt varnish as well, but that's further down the road.
Keep posting pictures, man.

Thanks, it took me roughly 2 hours, I didn't want to wait for it to dry today as I am busy tomorrow so I used a hair drier throughout the process to speed up the drying, for the base I am using sand which came with my citadel paint starter kit, matt varnish? I will look into it, would this be applied after the model is finished? I will continue to post pictures as models get completed next up I may paint a chaos space marine, need to get some gold paint thought and maybe a bone sort of colour

He's pretty cool! It's one of my favourite Chaos Cultist models by far, tried painting one but the mace broke when I took it out
Painting wise though, it's completely up to you how you paint them, I painted my first one last night and I just left most of his clothes black, whapped some brown on his mask and gave his coat a grey trim along with the other cloth.
The one you did looks pretty solid, it's good, are you using the GW paints? I only ask since they dry really quickly, other model paints probably do too.
You're going to have fun painting the Helbrute! It took me about 2 hours to paint the Chaos Cultist so we're on the same boat, it took me about 3 or 4 with the Helbrute and I'm not finished yet

Layering is a good trick. Brown to a lighter brown, just mix with white. I usually stick with the basic colors from GW. The model looks good.
Dry Brushing is a good technique for painting models. Put paint on the brush and whip off some of the paint until you get the desired brush stroke and then apply in the same direction. There is a couple tutorials on Dakka. It also speeds up the painting process, not as much paint needed to dry.
Washes are different than normal paint and water, a lot better. You should check to see if you local friendly Gamer Store had painting days... They should give you tricks and let you use some paints. Nulin Oil (guessing) is a good black one it makes them pop and look more Chaosy.
Overall a good looking model, It took me a while to figure out how i wanted to paint my models, with different tips. Before you know it you'll be a pro! GL hope to see more!

Hi All!
Today I painted my second model... the results aren't as good as I would have expected, I feel as though I had some trouble with the fleshy parts of the model, I used bugmans glow for the colour. The paint also looks a bit thick, what changes would you recommend? Thanks
