Tonight was my first attempt at airbrushing power weapons, I'm thinking purple/pink would go well with the Iron Warriors color scheme. Here are two test models, the models are finished being painted but I just tried the swords. I'm not sure what is missing from them and I just need some tips about how to improve them. Thanks in advance.

I really love the effect. For me though, its that bit of grey/white on the very bottom of the blade. Maybe try a full blue sword with a purple pulse in the middle?

I tried to put white at the bottom, but I have a hard time getting a good ratio of thinner to Citadel paints. The purple and pink are Vallejo, which I really like but they're hard to find here in Austin, TX. But you think painting the whole sword blue then purple in the middle or purple and pink in the middle?

I believe you can keep you colour the way you have it now but i half of your sword and invert them at the other part

Hey, I've been playing around with the force weapons too an this is how I do mine.

Tape the weapon like this

Left side front, left side back.

Then paint the whole weapon your "hot" color. Mine is white. Once you have white down paint your cold color mine is "blue angels" once you have the cold parts down take your medium color, mine is "ice blue" and blend the cold and the hot colors together.

It should look like this, with your colors of course

Take note: at this step you must clear coat the paint before you pull the tape off and reapply the paint to the other side. If you don't do this, your paint will peel off which is a real buzz killer.

Now tape the sides you've already painted and tape them off and make a point to remember where you painted your hot and cold sides. Eg: if the top is white on the left, make sure dark color is on top on the right. Repeat the process and you'll end up with this

You will probably over spray as done here, so make sure not to paint the rest of the weapon until the sword is complete.

Hope this helps you!

That's exactly what I wanted to say but you gave it to us as it should be.
Thanks

So here are the first results, I didn't clearcoat, because I was just trying it out and didn't care if it took too much off (however, the Tamiya tape didn't take any paint off). The power sword that comes in a standard CSM box was really hard to tape as the middle is not raised and it is flatter than some of the other swords. The GK sword in the middle was the easiest because it was bigger than the others and had a pronounced raised middle. The Sorcerer's blade was fairly hard because it is so thick that it almost has four sides. I was kind of trying to learn about the technique here, any suggestions? I feel that I have too little white, because I'm working with much smaller swords than the Dreadknight. Any suggestions?

Hey those look good man! The white you don't really need to be there too much, I'm thinking either lighten up the dark or darken up the light. I think a lighter cold color will look less drastic which I think is what you're thinking.

Here are my first ever attempts at the blades. I know how you feel as the GK halberds are pretty damned annoying with 3 sides to paint. If say just eyeball it and tape off the halves. Also if you really look there isn't that much white showing on that DK blade. I still think you're a look good man. Maybe a little too uniform in where the hot and colds are but overall those are sweet.

What are you using for paint and thinner?

Those look amazing. did you just tape off every side for the hammers? I have a bunch of power mauls in my Iron Warriors army that I wanted to do, and those look awesome. I was using Testors universal acrylic thinner and Vallejo Game Color Royal Purple(Cold), Warlord Purple(Medium) and Vallejo Model Color Ivory(Hot).

Nope, the hammer was just sprayed without tape. I'm going to try thinner I think next week as I've been using medium instead.
