Hi Dakka!

I recently gave in to the temptation to start a Pre-heresy/heresy-era World Eaters force... I've always loved the Pre-heresy scheme for these guys, and I've always been hesitant to try them before; but no longer!

To get in to the swing of things I started with the first part of a Tactical squad with Bolters; and although these guys aren't exactly frothing close combat loonies; I've made certain to give them all Chain bayonets; because they're cool as feth, and very appropriate for World Eaters!

I'm still waiting on some shoulder pads and brass etch from Forgeworld; along with another few tactical guys, so none of the models yet have iconography; but that will be fixed as soon as I get the stuff. I will be mostly using MKIII Iron armour, with a handful of MKIV and maybe some MKII suits thrown in. So far just MKIII and IV.

On to the pictures!

First five built

Everything I've built so far, I'm especially happy with how the Sergeant turned out.

Sergeant close up; I'm really happy with how this pose turned out! He still needs a little green-stuffing; and obviously iconography as well.

Some more close-ups:

I hope you like them; I know they're early WIP, but I haven't been able to do any more... As soon as I can I will get to the painting!

EDIT: Fixed pictures

EDIT2: Hopefully fixed now

My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. Well that was a bit of a fail of a beginning

I think I've figured out how the pictures work now though, so now; update!

I still haven't got the FW pads or brass etch, they should be here on Friday; so they are still unfinished, but I have now mounted them all on resin bases.

Nothing much else has changed apart from a little greenstuffing work on the Sergeant; and I've included a few more close-ups, because I'm really happy with the way the pose turned out

So there we go; a small update to keep you going until I get the detail stuff and I can get started on painting!

Thanks for the replies guys

The sword itself is from the old Master of the Chapter box (I think that's what it's called; the one that has 4 captains in) It came from the one in MKIII armour (Which, incidentally, I am using to make a World Eater captain, watch this space )
The scabbard is a sword from the Black Templars sprue. I cut the sword handle off the scabbard, roughly aligned the arms the way I wanted them, to get a rough size; then I cut the bottom part of the sword blade off, glued it to the scabbard, then aligned the arms as needed.

Hope that helps!

Ah! Yes it does, its the Captain with the sword point down into the ground while he holds his helmet in a powerfist. I was trying to place the piece but the posing had me thinking of one of the LotR Ringwraiths.

That will help me so much.
I wish to see these painted. That Sarge. I am stealing that idea for one of my Characters.

Thanks everyone!

Feel free to steal away! It's a surprisingly simple conversion... The position of the hand on the sword is slightly odd, due to the way it was held on the original model, but it still works well enough...

Anyway... Update!

Only a quick one for now; but I got the Forgeworld stuff! So just a quick group shot of them, now with shoulder pads and brass etch. These are going to be undercoated now; and I will begin painting them later today....

More updates coming later/tomorrow, when I've finally put some paint on....

Double post update!

So I did some painting, and I've made a fair bit of progress on the first test marine... Still not finished, but as I type this I've actually done more, and it's not far off being complete...

Here are the photos I've taken so far...

So what do you guys think so far?
I'm especially happy with the chain symbol on the right gauntlet; and the dirty armour... It's the first time I've tried painting weathered infantry like this; and I think it's turned out rather well

I look forward to hearing what you think!

No love for the test model? :(

Oh well, he's pretty much finished now; pictures below. I will be using some weathering powders on him; but I will wait until I have a few marines at this stage before I start that.

I love how he's turned out, I thought I might have gone a bit overboard on the blood; but then I realised that chain bayonets are gonna be pretty messy

And the progress I've made so far on the second model.

Let me know what you think! Too much weathering/blood? Not enough weathering/blood? Needs more cowbell?
