here and he has agreed.
If you notice anything wrong or anything which has been updated in this Tactica thread (especially points/loadout changes) since posting please let me know and i will edit it when i can. Especially formatting....this is going to be a MASSIVE post and i cant link in the middle of the post to make the table of contents as helpful as it is when each unit has its own post...if you have an idea of how to better do this please let me know.

千里之行, 始于足下
First of all, if you are new to the faction and to Infinity, I bid you welcome and hope you would have a great time with us.
Now then. So you have read the rules of Infinity, and have made the decision of playing Yù Jīng, which is an excellent choice of faction, but now you might be wondering just how to go about it, especially what to get first. That is a reasonable question, since one does not want to go into the deep end to early on, but still want to have a decent list to play around with.
That being the case, assuming you are not here for a sectorial list (they are covered in their separate threads), a good way to start out is by getting the Yù Jīng Starter Pack, since it contains a good mix of units, many of which are still usable in advanced lists. To summarise, the Starter Pack contains:
- Shàng Jí: A Heavy Infantry (HI) unit, with many improvements reflecting the expertise of Yù Jīng on HI technology. Well armoured and fast, he is an excellent attacking unit with many options.
- ZhànShì x3: A standard Light Infantry (LI) unit. They are primarily there to provide support (especially Orders) for the team, since they are usually too fragile for most combats.
- Domaru butai: Another HI unit, but one far more suited for close-ranged combat. While not as resilient compared to other HI, she can be a serious threat if she gets close enough to her target.
- Celestial Guard: A LI unit, but one capable of providing more active support to the team, since he is able to use many useful support equipment options that provide (in)direct aid to assault units.
Taking their profiles as featured, that team of six adds up to about 124/1 altogether, which is reasonable enough for some introduction games. However, with a bit of proxying, it is still possible to have a few interesting options below the 150pt level.

Once you have had a few games with the Starter Pack to familiarise yourself with how the game works, you might naturally be wondering what to get next. Fortunately, even with the many play-styles that are possible with Yu Jing, there are a few purchases which any Yu Jing player should seriously consider, due to their exceptional usefulness in any list they are included. While preferences ultimately depend on the player, here are my recommendations (in no particular order):
- Tigers (the 2-pack blister): Although the blister is old, the Tigers are among the most cost-effective AD troops in the game. The blister provides the basic variant, who can be used as a Paramedic or Hacker as needed, and the HMG variant. Both of them are excellent attacking units.
- Dào Fěi HMG: The only HI unit with the Camo+Infiltration combo in the game, this unit is far more dangerous then what their statline would suggest, since not only are they harder to hit, they can often Infiltrate further compared to other Infiltrators due to their HI-level PH. Since you can only get one of them, the HMG blister should be the first choice, as having Combat Camo with that weapon can be devastating to your opponent.
- Gŭi Láng Combi-Rifle: Aside from his MSV1, which makes him decent vs other Camo units, this variant can be used in many other roles, most of which provide indirect support to the rest of the team. As he is AVA 1, and not a particularly good shooter, the other blister is not a priority buy.
- Kuang Shi 4-pack: While difficult to control at times (being Impetuous), they are the cheapest source of Regular orders, and subsequently a great way to boost your order count. Their use requires a Celestial Guard with the KSCD, easily proxied from the Starter Pack, and thus indirectly brings Smoke coverage to the list.
- Hsien: Not only are they among the best combat units available, they have MSV2, which counters lots of Smoke and Camo-based lists. They work best with Smoke cover themselves. Either blister is fine, depending on whether you need the firepower (HMG) or an excellent Lt. (Multi-Rifle). (Note that the Imperial Service Starter Pack has the MR Hsien.)
- Sù-Jiàn: A unique transformer HI. While pricey $-wise as a ‘single’ unit, he is one of most tactically flexible units in Yu Jing, since he can reach objectives very quickly (Mobility Form), and hold them (Combat Form). In both Forms, he is well armed and armoured. The Mobility Form can also be used to proxy a standard REM if desired.
- Hac Tao HMG: With TO Camo and good combat stats, this unit is one of the most dangerous of options available for use, since they can do well vs most targets. While the ML variant is a deadly defensive unit, the HMG is more general purpose (especially with Combat Camo), and so make a good first pick if one has to choose between them.

While one would have to drop the domaru, you now gain 2 very effective attackers who will be a nasty surprise to the opponent, and still have a reasonable order pool at that pt level. The Lt. can be either the Shàng Jí or one of the ZhànShì, making his identity hard to guess, which is important for many lists.
A slight alternative to the above list would see a basic Tiger swapped with a proxied chain-rifle domaru, if one wants a greater initial presence on the field. In either case, the Celestial Guard can provide smoke cover for the Shàng Jí and/or domaru to use Intuitive Attacks if the situation calls for it.

And that’s it for now. While there are other useful units, they can either be proxied (for the Doctor and Engineer), better alternatives are available, or are rather too specialised and/or expensive for many lists.
Thanks for reading. Now go forth and win some battles for Yù Jīng!
