Does anyone ever play against themselves? You know like a 1500 point game against yourself? My brothers models are at the house and he bailed on our game today and I contemplated playing against myself. I would be able to say, okay, if I do this, how I would I counter it? Not play where I want one Army to win, but everything I do, try to counter it. I think it might be a good way for me to better learn the rules and learn both armies, and build some strategy.

What do you guys think? is it something you would do?Is it weird that I even had the thought?

It is viable as a Scenario for you to learn rules, but actually without the tactics to counter each other (because you intrinsically know what the other side is doing or going to do) you might miss some of the more tactically salient lessons.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

Not at all, solo games are often allot of fun. I've never played FoW solo so I've not idea how well it works, but in principle there is nothing wrong with it.

As mwnciboo says it's no substitute for a game against a real opponent, but to familiarise yourself with rules, experiment or just kill time solo wargaming is fine.

I played Battlecars solo repeatedly, iirc to work out which car was best. And will be playing FoW solo once I have two painted armies.

I keep thinking of doing it to get some campaign battles out of the way and learn the rules.

But you know what you will do do counter each thing, wich makes it harder to get the most out of it.

I think if I approach it as 1) a way to learn the rules and 2) a way to learn my army then it will be very beneficial. As far as the tactics portion I would have to use the mentality that "Okay, I'm the Brits at the moment, what do I need to do to Destroy the Germans" and the when I'm with the German side same thing. Like only think about one Army at a time not how I'm going to counter it once I flip the table but more or less just focus on one army at a time.
