I started painting a riptide using a heavy arms color scheme as a template Link: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2kJtRz-ZdLE/Tbi7uOVCQBI/AAAAAAAAABM/vfsvykQ0ros/s1600/1291065710445.jpg

Mephiston Red with orange highlights
ulthuan grey with scar white highlights
black with boltgun highlights
forgot which yellow , no highlights

Nuln oil for crevices.

Any suggestions ? Thanks!

If anything, give the red a dark wash like dark brown or sumin...

You might try Agrax Earthshade for the red parts if you have it. I've had some nice reds come out from Agrax Earthshade over Mephiston Red, just make sure the wash isn't too think.

Earthshade is great for reds as stated above. I can't wait to see this finished. My battle suits are getting ready to be gundamized.

I love the nice crisp and clean look your red has. For my 2 cents, don't ruin it with a brown wash.

Despite what we all think, adding a wash doesn't always make it better, and bright/vibrant red is often in the category of no wash = better.

I have to say I'm never really convinced with the idea of Gundam colour schemes on Tau. The classic, blue, white, yellow and red scheme doesn't work in my mind.

In saying that I think you have pulled this off wonderfully, and that riptide is looking brilliant and if the rest of your force is painted in a similar way i'm sure they look fantastic.

I'll echo Wolf's sentiment in saying that I feel the need to buy a riptide after seeing this thread.

Thanks guys! I actually used that earthshaker wash on the unit itself but not the shield. I applied it very very lightly. The only downside is i was testing the weight of the model prior to gluing on the feet to the base.. alas it was falling backwards and if i put the gun on the right side it would tip backwards. Gun will go on the left once I get my magnets in to ofset the balance =]. Again thanks.
